Is there a trade looming?

It appears we are on the hunt for a big back... with the front office knowing it’s go big or go home... do you think we stay put, trade or wait for cuts?

MMQB's Albert Breer reports the Panthers are trying to find a backup who can "ideally" take "a lot" of Christian McCaffrey's short-yardage and goal-line work.

Last year, six of McCaffrey's seven rushing touchdowns came on runs inside the four-yard line, and 17.6-percent of his total carries came with less than three-yards to go. If the Panthers find a capable short-area back, that would somewhat limit McCaffrey's ceiling. But the good news is the Panthers backup backs (Jordan Scarlett, Reggie Bonnafon, and Cameron Artis-Payne) aren't exactly big threats. Not to mention McCaffrey's insane passing-game workload. While it's a situation worth monitoring, this likely amounts to close to nothing for McCaffrey's fantasy value. He still needs to be drafted within the first four picks.

Our FB looks like poop in short yardage. There's a reason we stuck with CMC when it counted. Coaches want to keep their jobs.

What situations have you seen that? Honestly last year I barely saw anyone with the ball in their hands running except for Cam and Christian

He nearly cost us a TD last season with a terrible slow run with no push, and then they sent in CMC and we scored. Our FB doesn't look good at all to me. Need a faster power back.

.

Seems effective. I would think Armah could handle those duties if necessary if CAP or HOLYFIELD can't.

Jourdan Rodrigue kind of threw cold water on this...  And I'm not sure the idea of a trade isn't being taken out of context...

For background, Albert Breer of the NFL Network tweeted some things he had "learned" from Panthers camp and said they were looking for a bigger back to punch the ball close to the end zone to save some wear and tear on CMC.

Personally, I think this was lazy reporting based on Rivera saying they wanted to limit some snaps for CMC but not touches and him elaborating on it without any true insight.

There is obviously a battle for a backup RB, but the team has a big back in Armah.  They would like to have someone who ideally could do the same things CMC can do.

Typical lazy reporting from the national guys IMO

    • Another thread where the Huddle melts down over a Bryce comment.  "Conversations" and "Bryce Young has been signed to a new long-term contract" are still far away from being the gospel.  For a fanbase that has watched two top-3 drafted QBs come here, and us move on, only to see them elevate their play elsewhere, I find it comical. Bryce is flawed but this org is damned if you do and damned if you don't with BY9.  Why would our GM and HC say anything other than supportive about their QB1. Yes, he's extended, but I truly do not think if he goes out and has a repeat of the previous seasons, that he is here beyond 2027. They're giving him every opportunity and surrounding him with a ridiculous amount of assets on both sides of the ball. If he continues to pitch 110 yd/ game and cough up the ball while everyone else is busting their ass, no way Dan keeps him beyond the extension.
    • Ooof, I was not a Proctor fan. I agree w/ a lot of smarter folks than me that he's more of a guard and think his weight fluctuation is going to be something to navigate. I liked Lomu a lot, but figured there would be more talented guys there at 19. I also wasn't big on bringing in a TE via the draft. If it's not a vet (Njoku) or a trade for Mayer or Kmet, I'd just as soon see what the youngsters have. No need cluttering the room with more of the same.
    • Sam Darnold & Bryce Young are two very different Qbs ..just saying the last 25 years approximately 2/3 of ALL  first round Qb's  in the NFL were or are bust.so for everyone who makes it like a Sam Darnold you have two that don't make it or are a bust
