Spider Burns

Now that hopefully the existential fear of Cam being seriously hurt has washed over us, can we appreciate just how incredible Burns has looked in the preseason?

 

Preseason or not, 4 sacks in 3 games in limited snaps is extraordinary.

 

Even ultimately great EDGE rushers typically don't look great in year one.

 

If Burns stay healthy, he could be a legitimate DROY candidate.  

 

His ability to diagnose plays and elite athleticism reminds me of Kuechly.

 

I understand this preseason has certainly not been sunshine and roses, but it's hard not to be ecstatic about how great Burns can be.

He makes a lot of nice plays on backside run support too. When he gets left unblocked he gets to the ball so fast

Second. Maybe I've watched too much Simpsons, but all I can think of is a Spider-pig/Mr. Burns hybrid.

I wasn't trying to start a nickname... I assure you a didn't even put in that much effort... just wanted to bring up Burns in this overall cesspool of negativity around here

He has the speed, the bull rush. They will scheme against him eventually but he has looked like a legitimate 1st rounder so far.

On the night, Burns finished with five tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble as well as a tackle for loss. In the second half, Burns took down Patriots quarterback Jarrett Stidham for a strip-sack that was recovered by defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton. Later on, after being pressured on the outside by Bryan Cox Jr., Stidham was forced to step up and Burns was able to register his second sack of the night.

He made one REALLY nice play last night where he chased the RB down on the backside.  I said "Damn that guy is fast".  We got us a real one in Burns.
