I don’t remember anyone blasting Rivera for playing Thomas Davis in the Super Bowl with a broken freaking arm...only everyone showing admiration for his determination and grit. You think Davis would accept being benched there? Cam has that same love and passion for the game as Davis...so I’m sure he did everything possible to convince Ron he was okay.

Yeah I know Cam obviously gets so much unwarranted hate and criticism from a particular subset of the fanbase...but I also feel like there is another prominent subset of Huddlers who coddle Cam to a weird degree that no other player gets. It’s like he’s infallible and anything remotely negative he does gets deflected onto others.

Bingo....

....and bingo.

Ron wouldn't be able to field a team if he did so.

He should know by now when Cam is on his game or not. The dude was a shell of himself out there. It reflects poorly on his  ability to trust and evaluate his own guys to not pull Cam for the TB game  when Kyle Allen could have  lead us to what should have been an easy-ish win for us. We should be sitting at 2-1 right now with Cam having another week of rest.

If he just let Cam decide to play because he wants to when he's not 100% and we lose 5 games until there's a consensus that he needs to sit then Ron just got himself fired when his back up is capable of keeping us competitive.

I get that Cam is the leader of the team and has been with Ron from the beginning but he has to be aware of when something is wrong.

Ron even with his faults happens to have a pretty damn talented roster this year and I would hate to seem not take advantage of it to it's fullest in what could be his last year to prove himself as a coach. He has to give Cam his best chance to heal and be productive AND let the team stay competitive at the same time.

To be honest I thought that video was a little odd. Can’t put my finger on why though.  For some reason it didn’t sit well with me.

Just giving my take.

Yeah it was odd.  Honestly Cam is way too worried about what anyone thinks.  One thing that is odd to me is, here is a guy that allegedly cares so much about his body that he eats the way he does yet he is puffing the hell out of a cancer stick.

It was odd because it was a heavily edited 15 minute video of 30 year old man rambling about how his foot hurts and he’s getting old

Good on Cam for finally getting it.

Granted I'm biased because I've been there. Used to being the guy that carries my crew, gets off my game & can't do it anymore, needs a reality check to get back to where I was.

Mine came from a 4'10", 90lb Latina assistant director that flat out told me to go home & get right while thinking she was going to get fired at any second. A couple of years later when her car broke down I brought her a Lexus RX 350 because she saved my ass & my business.

Anyone pooing on Cam for this most likely has never been the go to guy.

That's not how the NFL works.  Cam is QB#1 and if he's strapped up and ready to roll then that's how the Panthers roll.

That said, your take on Rowboat is wrong.  Wrong, wrong, wrong:

"Players and coaches aren't always in agreement on whether an injury is serious enough for a player to miss time.

When there is gray area, Rivera will talk it through with his player.

"Sometimes the player will tell me a little something different from what he tells the trainer," Rivera says. "Most of the guys don't want to let you down. They feel they let you down if they're hurt. ... I think they are more honest with the doctors than they are with the coaches and their teammates because they don't want to let us down."

Some players need to be told they can't play under any circumstances. Rivera recalls quarterback Cam Newton lobbying to play in the Panthers' 2014 season opener against the Buccaneers even though he had fractured a rib in a preseason game. Rivera told him he wasn't playing.

"He fought me, argued with me. He got mad and stormed out," Rivera says. "But I didn't play him. Come Sunday, he was cheering everybody on, helping Derek Anderson out. Then we won the game, and he was mad at me again. Sometimes you have to protect them from themselves."

"Rivera says he has had both assistant coaches and players alert him to players who were exhibiting concussion symptoms. He says some players still fight about coming off the field."

The colts medical staff thought that Andrew Luck was able to play the year he sat out. I fault Ron to a point but when you're best player tells you he's good to go what can he do without possibly alienating his best player. Yes the team comes first no doubt and that's where I fault Ron not trusting his eyes over his players

He cares so much about his body yet he plays football.

I care about my body so much I work out 4 days a week yet I ride a motorcycle.

I drink alcohol too.

Hell, I post here when I could be working on new plotlines.

Being healthy & focused in one area of your life doesn't mean you can't enjoy a vice.

That's a good take, sir.

I'm incredulous that so many posters on this thread used it as yet another opportunity to cry for Ron's scalp.  It's getting old, guys.  Let it go.  You've said it all, a thousand times now.

I'm unsure of whether many of you even took the time to watch the whole 15+ minute video.  But I did, and was struck by the honesty and self-awareness that Cam showed.  And the maturity.  He was admitting, to his fans, not through some ghost-written transcript that so many athletes would have employed. but by direct video, unscripted and from his heart -- that he finally realized he CAN'T DO IT BY HIMSELF anymore, and that 80% of him ISN'T ENOUGH. (And BTW, editing doesn't undermine any of that.)

Those are monumentally eye-opening expressions of self-awareness, and not many pro athletes can -- or want to -- face them.  Over and over, he expressed team loyalty. and the success of his team, as his main goals.  Not personal goals, or stats, but to WIN.

Only those haters who look for something to criticize about him will find a negative in this video message.  If there WERE such a thing as an unbiased observer of Cam, he or she would have to say, "The guy impressed me with his sincerity, honesty, and love for the success of his team."

Is this the year....?..... I can see it all now....

Cam goes down....everyone doubts him/says career (with Panthers) is over.... Kyle Allen comes in looking sharp....fans starting the see Cam in the rear view.... Kyle Allen continues to play decent enough to win some games...has a sh¡t game...Cam comes back ....leads Panthers to Playoffs...lights it up in the playoffs proving all the doubters wrong and brings Carolina it’s first Lombardi Trophy.

Would be an epic storybook season...one can dream:)

    • I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.
    • Sure.    ignore that he said this roster wasn’t good in 2023 to 2024 but keep up the effort
    • While I don't believe its a must win, (we have been better on the road this post season) it is definitely A NEED TO WIN the longer this series goes the more pronounced the Canes advantage on rest and health will be! If we hold serve at home in games 1 and 2 guaranteeing a 6 game minimum series for them if we lose the road games..... by the game 4 and 5 I expect them to be beat they have played A LOT OF HOCKEY the last three years, they have MINIMAL rest off a more physical than one might have expected series vs the leafs.... you know Tampa took their pound of flesh in round 1 from them. Combine all that with the fact that even though this year's canes squad isn't as talented as last years this IS a better squad than the one they swept last time that had McKenzie Mckeathern on line 1 Turbo with a broken hand a banged uo and eventually concussed Slavin (and even though it was a sweep 6 OTS and 4 1 goal losses is hardly dominant)  This year Bob hasn't been superman (hes probably gonna still have a great save percentage agiast us just a side effect of our style) Thatchuk is maybe 50% (3 game winners agiast us) their defense no longer has Gudas and several other downgrades.  While the Canes have a healthy and performing Svechnikov along with other big guys to counteract florida like Carrier, Jankowski, Robinson.   I by know means think it will happen but I either see this as a low scoring dog fight or a series were the canes surprise and end up dominating.
