Saints Defense what's the secret?

How are they limiting all these good offenses to 3 points or fewer quarters?  Minshew was gashing us but can't do poo against them.  Strangled Big D and Tampa previously.

Payton isn't even supposed to be a defensive minded coach

He's a good coach who has a SB win. Called a f'n onside kick and poo and had a pick 6 vs manning.

He's just vicodin crazy enough.

Field position in the 1st was a mess for the jags.

Saints were not among the preseason favorites for nothing, and it wasn't just for the offense.

They got playmakers (Cam Jordan, Demario Davis, Marshon Lattimore) at all 3 levels on their defense.  Plus their defensive line overall is way better than in years past.

We don't win the division without taking them down at least once and maybe both times this year.

Bradberry isn't Lattimore.

This isn't a knock on Bradberry, but he's not as athletically gifted as Lattimore. Lattimore is able to recover and stick with his guys a lot easier than Bradberry. In fact that whole secondary is more talented atheletically than ours.

So for example when D.J. Chark, 6'3 and runs legit 4.3 is matched up against Crock it's a lot more of a difficult matchup for us.

That said our front 7 is dramatically better.

    • Even if he beats the odds, returns midseason  and plays like he did last year it won’t warrant a big contract extension.
    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
