Kyle Allen - Trade

Lets talk hypotheticals here...

Lets say QB1 comes back and plays well. Now lets also assume that Will Grier continues to develop throughout the season, Kyle Allen could probably fetch some pretty good trade capital given how young and cheap he is.

We might be in a position like the Patriots have been the last several years where we trade a back up for decent draft capital. I think that is the best case situation for us.

Probably not going to be as much trade value as you would think for a relatively unproven guy on a one year deal. Better off to wait until free agency and then just out bid us.

Isn't he exclusive rights? If we tender him, he can't even negotiate with other teams

NO

You do like Foles in Philly

Part of this fan base wants a 100% healthy QB1 Back

But you need to make sure he can make it through this year and next before extending him.  If he goes on to stay healthy this year and next and looks good.  Yeah you trade Allen

Philly knew a healthy Wentz was their best option but had injury problems.  But Foles showed he could win you games.  Eventually they extended Wentz at the end of his contract and moved on from Foles

If Cam comes back but then injury problems next year, atleast you have Allen and extend him and not resign Cam

Why would you trade a good backup just because Cam returns?

Cam has missed significant time the last 2 years and taken more punishment in NFL history....him coming back healthy doesn’t mean he stays that way for long.  He could come back 100% and be back out in 3 weeks.  We need a backup.

You keep Allen.

This

This same fan base were PISSED at Hurney after preseason because Grier and Allen looked bad and we wanted a Backup that could come in and win games, something we havnt had since Anderson

Now your wanting to Trade that same thing you were crucifying the GM for, for "not getting this offseason"?

You can't trade a promising young QB in this league, especially when your starter hasn't been able to stay on the field. You just can't.

Yeah, I am assuming he is saying Cam comes back and finishes the year healthy while playing well.

It would make more sense to keep Allen around but it is also a hypothetical.

So, what's the ultimate squeal point on trading him? What if a first round pick is offered?

Here’s a counter hypothetical: Cam hasn’t sustained the injuries he has in the past 2 years but is still on the wrong side of 30 and his effectiveness is still dependent on a play style that puts his body at risk more than any other qb in the league. Do you expect your massive good fortune to continue indefinitely or do you prudently invest in retaining a backup who is above average against the inevitable day when your aging franchise guy can’t go?

Even without the current injury situation you retain Allen.

    • Yes message boards will always include that sort of stuff… However, this place has been a cess pool since the team took Bryce Young over CJ Stroud. It becomes a problem when it is accepted and promoted, which it has been here (even by at least one mod). Many posters sole purpose on this board is to try to dunk on others for having different opinions. We just had one write a novella on how talking about Bryce Young’s game winning drives “needs to stop”…after a win. They don’t want real conversation. It “needs to stop”. There are many posters here who literally only show up after losses to dead thread and try to dunk on others about the QB (MRenshaw is an easy example). I really don’t see much of that happening the other way around. There’s too many people that would rather the team be bad so they can feel justified for constant doom and gloom and negative opinions. It’s been pointed out by many over the past couple years. This just isn’t a place to have football discussions anymore because of the constant hyperbole. If you don’t subscribe to “Bryce Young is the worst QB ever who can’t throw the ball further than 5 yards and is the reason why we lose any game we lose and doesn’t help in any game we win”, then you are labeled a Bryce Young Stan.
    • if you believe he is watching every NFL game.....every week.....go right ahead.  I get it, he said something you like.  But that's like believing the talking heads on the ESPN shows are watching all the games.  You think Stephen A is watching the Panthers every Sunday too?  If Stephen A needs to go on First Take he certainly can pretend like he has watched every snap any player on the roster has taken lol.   No one is that isn't a Panther fan has been watching the 9-25 career go down every Sunday.  Or even a lot of Sunday's.  You know who knows more about Bryce Young than Long? The collective huddle.  What they are reviewing is stat sheets, highlights and in summaries.  It's an old formula lol.
