Interesting 49ers stat (Good news for Carolina)

There's a lot of interesting takes on the 49ers in Bill Barnwell's most recent article looking at the teams who have improved their playoff odds the most (link below). Just wanted to highlight an excerpt that caught my eye the most:

In his return from a torn ACL, Garoppolo still looks unsteady under pressure; he ranks 12th in the league in passer rating without pressure, but he is just 28th when teams do get pressure

San Francisco is also down both starting offensive tackles. Can't wait to watch Burns, Addison, McCoy and the gang feast. I'm feeling better about our chances.

The 49ers running game is what scares me. We have obviously sacrificed defending the run in favor of focusing on stopping the pass which I do believe is the correct strategy in this NFL, but the Shanahan running game is no joke, they’ve got 2 or 3 RBs who can fly and they’ve have been great so far this year. Hopefully Ron has a good plan for slowing it down but I don’t think we ever did a great job stopping it while Shanahan was in Atlanta.

49ers are for all intents #1 in total defense and #2 in rushing offense.  Those 2 things make you a contender.  If the Panthers go out there and win this game there is no doubt left we are also contenders.

Sorry but not picking us to win this one.  Can’t wait to see this game.

Kind of thinking more about how we are gonna block bosa and co

He will require help but the rest of that DL is very nasty.  Kyle has to get it out super fast.  Thankfully we have the best player in the NFL as an outlet. :shades:

This. Their running game is ridiculous. They're second in the league in rushing yardage and they'd be first in just about any other season but Baltimore is off to a record setting pace in rushing this year. To put it in perspective, they're about 20 yards per game ahead of 3rd place.

They're not going to try to beat us with Garappolo's arm. They're going to line up and try to smash the ball down our throats and live off of play action in the passing game. The outcome of this game very well may come down to our ability to stop the run and honestly, I'm not sure of our ability to do it. We've only faced two good rushing attacks and they both did work against us. The Texans had 136 rushing yards and the Jags had 149. The Niners average nearly 180.

if we go out and step on their dicks we're gonna be in the conversation for best NFC team

So true...can’t let a beat down derail us like Pittsburgh though.  I am confident but If Allen turns it over a lot that could hurt his roll considerably

That defense is legit and young and eating right now.  Can’t have turnovers or we are fugged

I trust Ron to get the D to focus on stopping the run.

Was about to post this

They are also without their probowl fullback who went out this past week.

Also George Kittle missed practice today with a groin

Donte Jackson has been out the last few weeks with a groin

    • This is a #1 pick lol. Imagine if we'd just stayed patient for a year or two
    • I was driving around the stadium doing it but the police kept telling me “this is your last warning”  and “keep your hands where we can see them” and “put down Bryce young” so I stopped.
    • So first of all, we know that he continues to make mistake after mistake EVERY single week.  Him lining up offside was somehow even mor embarrassing than I thought considering he "checked" with the official...yet literally NEVER looked at the official to find out if he was lined up correctly.  fuging insane to me.   That said, later in the game, I noticed on 4th down, when we HAD to have a first down to keep the game alive down 20-10 with like 3:30 to go...XL was suspiciously NOT on the field.  Thats our "Number 2 receiver" not on the field for a HAVE TO HAVE IT down.  If I remember, the personnel was Tmac, Jimmy Horn, Tremayne, and Mitchell evans or Tremble.  I noticed live during the game because they showed a shot of Canales and XL was behind him, helmet off.  I dont have access to the all 22 but if someone could, I would love to know how much he saw the field in the second half.  I know he had the 1 catch for 3 yards on the TD drive. Also dug into the numbers, first of all its obvious that Jalen Coker is now our #2 receiver, not just by play, but play percentage too as I looked through snap counts but I'm just lookin at XL in this post.  Heres a plot of his snap count % since he returned from injury. Obviously hes trending down, but I do think that the lackadaisical play and just absolute dumbass mistakes, I think its possible that Coach Canales has had enough.  He wont say it in the media (No coach ever will) but I think actions speak louder and Im hopeful that he finally straight up benches him this weekend and runs with players that wont continually put us in a bad position.
