A purely statistical analysis of Kyle Allen this season

Here's a stat...Allen is 1 and done in the playoffs!

That's to be determined but honestly given how much stronger the 2nd half of our schedule gets and the strength of the conference with the Saints having a comfortable lead in the division, simply getting a playoff berth would be a pretty decent accomplishment.

Thank you for putting that together.  Interesting to see how that develops throughout the season. Given the nature of our offense and the limited scope of this kind of comparison, I think it can be misleading, but I think the general trend is true: Allen has played at approximately what I would consider an "average" for an experienced-but-not-exceptional QB in an offense with a heavy run focus.

What makes his play impressive to me is: 1) His decision making is that of an experienced backup, but he is not an experienced backup, but a young player, and 2) he has progressed and, imo, developed over the last few weeks in how he deals with certain flaws in his game (fumbles, pocket presence, locking on to a single receiver are clear areas he has worked on).   Whether or not that will make him more than an average player in the long term, I don't know, but we have seen flashes of very good play through numerous drives.  GB will be a good test, although so was Tennessee IMO, and after a rough first few drives he bounced back really strong.

Here is an interesting tweet on stats. And how CMC is benefiting from Kyle being under center more often.  Interesting.

Are they seriously using a two game sample size when Cam's foot was hurt? One of those games was against Tampa who sold out to stop Christian McCaffrey. What if we took two games from Allen, one being Tampa, and compared them as well?

The story of this season is McCaffrey. He is the unquestioned heartbeat of this offense. He’s not slowing down. He’s on pace for one of the finest seasons at his position in NFL history. Plus, the team is still competitive and very much in the playoff race. I’m personally finding a great deal of joy in both of those elements. Nobody knows anything about where Cam will be next year or the year after that. And we have done every type of autopsy possible on the good bad and ugly of Kyle Allen. He’s a back up quarterback. He’s also been a part of six wins as a starter since the end of last season. That’s more than a lot of very highly paid quarterbacks. You can analyze the statistics to death on it, and I put value in a lot of the micro. But you’ll end up paralyzed if you overdo that stuff. The way the team responded after the disaster in San Francisco tells me a lot about their mental make up. It actually tells me more about where they are than that SF loss itself.

This team matches up fairly well against most of their opponents down the stretch. Even Green Bay, who can’t seem to stop the run and can get very one dimensional on offense. After the 0-2 start, this is all I could’ve asked for.

But my God, eulogizing Newton at this very moment seems ridiculously stupid. Nothing overly dramatic has occurred today. He’s had a bad foot injury, they’ve made a prudent move to shut it down. There are huge financial considerations moving forward with the contract, and the injuries make that a bit of a murky issue for many out there.

All I give a goddamn about is a winning performance in Green Bay on Sunday. If you can’t find yourself enjoying wins, no matter who the quarterback is, it’s time to check out.

Of all the threads to post this rant on, you pick this one?

Odd.

I struggle coming up with a current comparison. Chad Pennington is probably the closest comp I've seen in my time.

Old school but I agree, I say dak because his criticism is the same as Allen, Elliot is the engine for the cowboys offense just like here, lack off 300 yard games, Glorified game manager label, lack of downfield passing ect
