Jones-Drew talks up McCaffrey as MVP

Given total offensive yards include passing and rushing and CMC is a running back, why is passing yards considered by folks here as most important? Otherwise if you look at rushing yards we are 7th in the league and many teams above us have more than one rusher getting the yards. Seems to me that a running back can only account for so much unless he plays running back, receiver and quarterback.

'Rushing yards per game', is simply a measure of how many times you rush the ball a game.  Ron Rivera and Shula are conservative old school guys who love to run the ball.

You have to look at next level stats/analytics to see the efficiency of those runs.  Both football outsiders and PFF have us between the 23rd to 26th most efficient offenses in the NFL.

If anyone thinks we have a good offense, I don't know what they are watching.  Running backs who win MVPs tend to come from historically good offenses;  ours is one of the worst.

Like I said, Lamar Jackson has almost as many rushing yards as CMC, and isn't even a running back (and Baltimore has an elite/historic offense).  And Lamar Jackson isn't even going to win MVP.

Our defense is the main reason we're over .500.

Rushing yards per attempt is an area of particular strength and is not based on "how many times we run the ball."

We have a very good rushing offense.  The proof is in the numbers.   Ours is not "elite."  Nobody said it was.

Lamar Jackson has 250 fewer rushing yards than CMC... this is not even close to "almost as many"... projected across an entire season that is 500 yards difference!  And... Lamar Jackson is also a darkhorse MVP candidate lol.

We're going to be in the race for the #1 overall pick with a great defense that leads the NFL in sacks and turnovers, and is third in passing defense?

Really?  You could put Teb*ow behind center with this defense and we'd be 3-5.

Dolphins/Bengals/Jets have abysmal defenses.

People really twisting here.

Yep, because this offense wouldn't be able to do anything and without building a lead we'd be getting the ball smashed down our throats because our run D is close to the bottom.

Look, I'm a big Cam fan too, but my god man... is it really THAT triggering to you for literally anyone else in a Panthers' uniform to be getting a little bit of national love?

We have the most sacks in the NFL and the third ranking passing defense in the league.

Our offense is actually one of the worst in the NFL.

Is CMC playing some secret position on defense that I am unaware of?

This is very tortured logic.

Why do people (I use the term loosely) spout numbers thinking no one will check them? Per NFL.com,

Total defense 19th

Passing defense 9th

Rushing defense 26th

Total offense 22nd

Passing offense 25th

Rushing offense 7th

Take CMC away from this team and see what's left. We might have the rock bottom offense and be in the race for #1 overall with the Dolphins/Bengals/Jets.

What he said. Its Most valuable player and CMC fits that perfectly. In nearly all games he was the best player on the field at any time.

He should be on everyones top 5 MVP. I got him as third after Russ......(deep pains) and Jackson.

Has there ever been an NFL MVP from a bad offense, or even a mediocre offense?

Has there ever been someone who finished in the top 3 for MVP from a bad offense?

It's doubtful the Panthers even make the playoffs.

People are holding CMC to some ridiculously low standard because its bright, novel, and shiny for them to watch a white guy excel as a running back.

Or maybe it's because he's having an unprecedented season as a RB while completely carrying this offense and playing virtually every snap with the entire opposing defense keying on him.

I think he is the most valuable player in the NFL through the first half of the season, but the MVP award might as well be renamed "Dude Who Happens to be QB'ing the Best Team in the NFL" award. In today's pass happy league I don't see how any non-QB stands a chance.
