Tepper was "very frustrated" losing to Falcons

Tepper was very frustrated by last week's loss to Atlanta, a team who entered the game with just two wins, the sources said, which was obvious post-game. He held an impromptu session with the local media midweek, and though he declined to address the future of Rivera or general manager Marty Hurney during the briefing, the fact he held the briefing at all left some in the organization wondering if it was a precursor to changes.

Rivera has one year left on his deal and would be heavily sought after if the Panthers were to go in a different direction. Tepper may not be inclined to offer the kind of extension Rivera's cumulative record with the Panthers suggests he is worth, and the owner may lean toward a more analytical, offensive-minded head coach, according to some who know him.

Furthermore, Tepper has been unsure of whether quarterback Cam Newton would merit another massive contract extension since purchasing the team, and Newton has been hurt most of the last two years and also entering his final contract year in 2020. Tepper confirmed that all options are open for Newton in 2020, with several executives from other teams believing a trade is looming after the season.

Panthers brass always knew that 2019 was likely to be a defining year for them, given Tepper's eventual desire to become more hands-on with the football side of the operation after focusing on the business side in his first year at the helm. Sitting at 5-5 and currently on the outside of the NFC playoff picture with a challenging schedule looming, the import of these finals games is lost on no one.

I honestly think a blowout today means Rivera is fired. 40-10 or so would do it.

No way Hurney and Rivera are back next year. 3 out of 9 winning seasons with prime Cam and Luke as a building block for your team is a disgrace.

Its frustrating they tied Ron and Cam together. They never fit together. Pure stupidity.

    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
    • I basically made almost the exact predictions on a phone call with a buddy about 3 weeks ago. I really do expect Evero gone before the seasons end, Young to just not able to get over the hump enough and DC to head into next season on a VERY hot seat.
