Mike McCarthy sounds like he is auditioning for a Tepper interview

Mike McCarthy in a recent interview...

"No matter where he ends up, McCarthy doesn't envision a total teardown. ("I'm not a believer in [that]," he said. "I think every one of these opportunities that will be available, there's resources in there that you have to make sure you're aware of and try to utilize.") He wants to better use technology and analytics. ("We were definitely on the average side at best in my time in Green Bay there. I've looked at every team in the league and their commitment to analytics, and football technology and video. Because everybody has analytics, but it has to be part of your everyday operation to show up on Sundays.") At the forefront of the program will be player wellness, including dedicated resources for mental health. ("You have to develop the locker room from every possible angle. It can't be a subcontractor. It needs to be part of your everyday operation.")"

Tepper probably raising his eyebrows while reading this.

McCarthy's "project" is interesting. He's got three other coaches (former DC Jim Haslett, former QB Coach Frank Cignetti Jr and former defensive quality control guy Scott McGurley) that he has regular meetings with just as if they were a coaching staff.

Tom Pelissero wrote about it of NFL.com (link) and he has a video interview with McCarthy in his Twitter,

Well he picked enough Pittsburgh guys to at least make Tepper think about it. Heck I played for Frank Sr.

What do your know about any of these guys and their offensive innovation? McCarthy has never struck me as all that innovative. I've had enough slow-mo football where it almost seems like the coach is afraid to press the gas and leave tread marks on the opposition. All that playing down to the competition and essentially rubber banding yourself to them until you pull away at the last moment is for the birds.

Mccarthy is a lateral move at best

You're probably right. Pretty much anything you can say about Rivera wasting Cam’s prime here, you can say about McCarthy wasting Rogers except they actually won one SB, but I’d chalk that up to the refs actually protecting Rogers instead of letting him be headhunted.

Yeah, we don't need a retread like that. Need some new blood

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
