Some guy who sounds like Pep - Cam is Irreplaceable

This is a foolish debate to still be having. Yes I am as worried as anybody else about Cams injuries. But if your wrong on this you lose one of the most gifted and unique talents not just the Panthers but the NFL has ever seen. We have been spoiled by years of Cam to think hey we will just find another one next year or Allen is a franchise qb. These guys are extremely hard to find.

A guy who can ar his best not be just top 10 but the best qb in the league? Are you kidding me?? I know it's a risk but I say like he said let him write his check.. I can stomach the potential loss of guaranteed money at the quarterback position vs say what we wasted on Matt Khalil and DeAngelo William's and Jonathan Stewart and add in Jake. We have made plenty of bad signing in the past that look like no brainers now.

This is not one of them. None of those guys were MVP face of the franchise among the best to ever play the game. This guy is.. sign the MFin contract...

Yeah, it was a different story when the Chargers let Brees walk. They already had Philip Rivers waiting in the wings. They'd spent the #4 overall pick on him and he'd been in the organization for two seasons and they pretty much knew he was going to be really good given the opportunity.  Same type of story with the Packers and Favre/Rodgers. Similar story with the Colts and Manning/Luck. Ditto for the Niners and Montana/Young.

We'd be parting ways with Cam with no known successor and we'll be holding likely a borderline top 10 draft pick. Not great.  That's a recipe for some flailing years to come. The teams that make the seamless transitions generally find the next guy before parting ways with the old guard.

No one is irreplaceable.  But Cam has been a good qb for us, and anyone who thinks we will be able to draft a QB like Tua or Burrows and that qb will automatically be as good as Cam has another thing coming.

I think most of this ganbase is still living in 2015. Cam lost 30 pounds of muscle and cant stay healthy. He cant run the ball effectlively anymore and his accuracy issues prevent him from being a successful pocket passer.

I understand peiple ha e an attachment to cam because he was our first superstar franchise qb... but you gi e a contract based on the future, not based on what a player did 3 or 5 years ago. Cam was special because he was a dual threat. Now that he cant run he is average at best and cant stay healthy. The team is rebuilding. It is time to move on. You guys can poo me all yoi want, but i have seen this show before. He is gone.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
