Atlanta Is Bringing To Light What Our Actual Issues Are

The big issue is Cam Newton hurt his foot in New England.

How did Cam’s hurt foot turn our defense into pile of poo? This team would have won a number of games if the D met expectations.

Remember...we have the most expensive D line in football.

That's a wonderful statement, but it can't be proven or disproven. We had Cam and he went on IR, so we aren't in the playoffs. We are already 5 games out of the last playoff spot and Cam's still on the team. This discussion is no different than saying if KB didn't tear his ACL then I think we win the SB. I'd get a lot more flack for saying that because KB is hated and Cam is loved, but it doesn't make it any less "true" except that KB did tear his ACL. I can point to KB being our best weapon in the rematch of the SB in week 1, but it's still 100% conjecture because there's no way to prove it.

We aren't a good team and Cam doesn't change that. It's not 2015 where we have a top OL and a solid D and just have a makeshift WR corps. Kind of like the people trying to make it seem like Allen is causing this all-pro offensive line to look bad. Maybe the OL and Allen suck.

We aren’t a good team, but when we started 0-2 you and others, when Kyle had that fools gold run, were blaming Cam saying if he didn’t play we’d be good. Which one is it?

I mean, you were doing the same thing I’m currently doing now at the beginning of the season. You are right though, what I said tonight and what you said in the beginning of the season can’t be proven or disproven

We would’ve been in the playoffs with Cam.

a healthy cam wins the first two games plus green bay plus atlanta twice plus new orleans at home plus washington plus colts next week and we're a fifth seed if not fighting for the division in week 17

They were looking like possibly the worst team this side of the Bengals at one point, they have had injuries, they even traded one of their top recievers and last I checked are giving major snaps to a UDFA after they lost Ridley...  and yet, they've beat the Saints, swept us, and now beat what us probably the best team in the NFC.

Go up and down our rosters and tell me who has more talent.  Clearly we do on paper...  and yet, look at us and look at them.

It's the coaching and culture.  Yeah, players loved Ron, but they loved Ron for the person he was, not the coach.  He rarely ever actually challenged his players, and when it came to their jobs, players have been comfortable just going through the motions because that has been our culture...  jobs aren't taken or challenged because players aren't held accountable.  Why would I change what I'm doing, mistakes included, when I know my job is safe regardless?

No one really feared Ron, they liked Ron.  Atlanta is beating superior teams with inferior talent because their jobs were on the line - from the staff to the players.  Quinn has the respect of his players as a coach, and they have played for him accordingly...  whereas with Ron, the players gave the same generic responses and went out and played the same mediocre football - because it was accepted.  Period.

Sorry for the rant.

Well hurney makes these vets just as safe. Gettleman didn't

While I agree, the OL sucks, I really feel Allen has made them look worse.  It's kind of a chicken or egg situation.

And I’ll say this, again, Ron was ‘happy with all’ a guy he released previously. He liked his ‘intangibles’

ron always did like his ‘Rudys’

im like, in the whole  world, there was no one better than Allen and Greer to backup Cam..really

Hurney tried to sell everyone in the offseason that they didn't want to repeat of last year with the backup quarterback situation So what does he do doesn't sign anybody drafts a quarterback that will never snap this year for some strange reason. I just don't get how you can just see these two things along with the highest paid defensive line in the league and we can't stop the run and say this guy knows what he's doing

Cam was a part of the problem in the first two weeks. He was clearly not healthy and he had no business even playing week 2. He tried to gut it out but he and our idiot coach just ignored it. The two wild card spots are likely going to two 12-4 teams. Starting out 0-2 in the NFC would mean even with Cam we’d have to be 13-1 and this D and OL aren’t getting it done even with Cam. No chance Cam helps us overcome a 38 point loss at SF and we didn’t play Minnesota. Allen’s been terrible the past 6 weeks, but unfortunately he’s all we have. Grier’s clearly nowhere close and may never be. No idea where we go from here but it’s not going to be pretty IMHO.

Looking back it's crazy that at one point when we were on our win streak there were people complaining about how "selfish" Cam Newton hurt our playoff positioning losing the first two games by playing injured. Fast forward to now, our defense is mostly dreadful, Kyle Allen is on his way to throwing a few dozen interceptions, and we will be lucky to somehow slip our way into the top 10 of the draft.

We basically screwed ourselves out of a likely guaranteed top 5 pick while getting nothing for it in a year where not only are we facing a looming desperate search for a future QB, but hitting the reset button on the staff and likely a substantial part of our defense.

Was it worth it winning a few with baby goat?

It's all about taking a beating and still being able to answer the bell and come out swinging.

We're soft. Atlanta found something in the middle of getting the dogwater kicked out of them.

Pittsburgh did the same this season.

And yeah, that does come down to coaching and team leadership. Hate to say it, but that's where the difference lies.
