FYI ... Writers typically don't choose images to accompany articles.

Or headlines--at least that is my experience as a former sports writer just out of college.  I even took my own photos at times and did not get to choose them.

I stopped freelance writing years ago because of poo like this. It's incredibly infuriating to look like an idiot because of things out of your control. Images and headlines are basically completely out of your control. Hell, I've had articles published that were hardly recognizable from what was submitted after editors practically rewrote them to push the narrative of their choosing.

Me too--they cut leads that were referenced in the closing, rearranged paragraphs because they wanted them to fit the page better, and created headlines that were inaccurate and did not reflect the article's theme.

Then they put your name in the byline and the paper goes out to hundreds of thousands of people who then attack your story---I interviewed David Robinson (Navy) when he was a sophomore that the nation had yet to know and it was not printed-it was about his growth since being recruited, his work ethic, etc.  An introductory piece that was focused on how a midshipman basketball player (when the height limit was 6' 6") was approaching 7 feet.  I touched on his play, but he was a bit clumsy (after growing 4 inches in less than 2 years).  They did not publish it--until 2 years later, when he was the #1 player in college basketball.  It made me sound like an idiot--like I was telling the world about this guy who plays basketball and he is pretty good--and his name is....Everyone knew him then.

    • just read the thread. I would like to say that the team not being sold to Tepper is an absolute banger of an answer and probably the right one

Initial gut reaction when I first thought of this question is Kasay kicks it in bounds on the kickoff, but unfortunately I still think New England wins that game even with that My second instinct was pulling Bene out before he breaks his leg in the playoffs. My crackpot theory is if he never gets hurt we win the superbowl. I refuse to go back and watch the game but at some point Peyton throw an absolute duck that should have been pick 6'd. but because we were on our like fifth outside corner he was slow to the ball. this would have completely flipped that game because I'm pretty sure Denver scored that drive and the next one was the Cam sack fumble
