Probably just need to go ahead and cut Grier

I’ve watched Clausen and Weinke and Fasani and Matt Lytle play QB. Grier was bad. But he’s still better than them.

EDIT: maybe not Weinke, because I saw him throw for 422 yards and three picks. But Grier is nowhere near as pathetic as Fasani or Clausen. His game last week was better than anything either of those guys ever did tbh.

But it doesn’t really matter, he and Baby Goat are unlikely to be here next year.

He's on a dirt cheap mid-round rookie contract. He looked unbelievably awful today, but there's no reason not to bring him to camp next year to let a new staff evaluate him. But, if I'm being honest, no I do not expect him to be on the roster next season. Honestly not even sure he's worth a practice squad spot but we'll see.

I like his ability to escape the rush and he buys time in the pocket well. He’s mobile, which is a must with this sieve line. But he’s not accurate enough and couldn’t hold up for a game and a half without getting hurt. Hope he gets better, but it doesn’t matter much. He wasn’t drafted to be the future and he won’t be.

Clausen stuck around a few seasons. Grier will not. And Fasani could at least run. But you are right Grier has him in the passing department, just barely

Sticking around a few seasons does not make someone better. Clausen was the 47th pick. Didn’t matter what he did, he wasn’t getting cut after one season. Grier actually ran better than Fasani too. But it’s irrelevant.

We were at camp every day. Our analysis was simple: Kyle Allen was the clear number two quarterback. And it wasn’t even close. And that’s exactly how it played out.

Kyle is a solid NFL back up. Will has demonstrated very little value to this point. And they both played behind a dogshit OL. They both had McCaffrey at their disposal.

I’m not ready to cut anybody, but I’m telling you right now it feels like a bad pick. It felt that way in August. He was that bad.

Not making excuses, but Grier had the following conditions:

  • Samuel was his #1 WR
  • He had the offensive line in front of him
  • They had a huge lead and could pin their ears back.
  • They were out to deny CMC, Grier's only offensive weapon.
  • It was raining.

While I agree that he sucked, I wont say what he can do when these things are not working against him
