A lot of pieces of a pretty bad defensive performance. I'd like to hear what the new coach has in mind on that side of the ball.

Looking at players under contract for 2020 the defense is in complete disarray and the offense is waiting to hear what is happening with Newton.  Team can probably survive a complete rebuild if Newton is back and healthy because the offense isn't in bad shape outside of the OL but defense needs heavy investments this offseason.

McCoy, Cockrell, Bradberry, Boston, maybe Wright if he is cheap enough and Mario if he will stay for cheap

Then switch back to a 4-3 for 1st down/short down and distance and nickel for passing situations (maybe 3-3-5 for more confusing blitzes)

4-3

Draft pick/FA/Mario - McCoy - KK - Burns

Carter/Draft pick/FA - Luke - Shaq

Bradberry - Reid - Tre - Jackson/Cockrell (whoever does better covering outside)

Nickel (3-3-5)

Draft pick/FA/Mario - KK - McCoy

Burns - Luke - Shaq (sub in Miller/Haynes for Burns/Shaq as needed for pass rush specialists)

Bradberry - Reid (I would blitz him a fair amount) - Tre - Jackson - Cockrell

  • DT Gerald McCoy - Would like to keep, price will likely be too high.
  • DE Mario Addison - Would like to keep, price will likely be too high.
  • DE Bruce Irvin - If he comes back at a very cheap price and the new scheme fits, sure.
  • CB Ross Cockrell - Would like to keep if at a reasonable price.
  • S Tre Boston - Would like to keep if at a reasonable price. Likely to be gone, however.
  • DT Vernon Butler - Avoid contract year producers at all costs. Let him go.
  • DT Kyle Love - Let him go.
  • CB James Bradberry - Would LOVE to keep but likely too expensive.
  • CB Javien Elliott- If he's cheap, not a bad rotational guy.
  • WR Jarius Wright  - Absolutely let him go.
  • G Greg Van Roten - Would like to keep if at a reasonable price.
  • T Daryl Williams - Absolutely let him go.
  • WR Chris Hogan - Irrelevant one way or the other.
  • DE Wes Horton - Let him go.
  • DT Stacy McGee - Keep as a depth guy if other options fall through.
  • CB T.J. Green - Irrelevant one way or the other.

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS

*DT Dontari Poe and WR Jarius Wright have team options that can be picked up before the 2020 league year begins. If the options are not picked up, they become unrestricted free agents.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
