If Cam leaves, Phillip Rivers maybe?

If Cam can play up to his previous levels and is healthy....good. If not and he leaves, how would you all feel about P. River's to get them through the next couple of year's? I know he is 38 but he can still play at a pretty high level. Bring in a rookie in 2020 or 2021 to have a little time to develop him.  Fix the Oline and throw him back there.....yay or nay?

Why even bother if that's the best you can do, and not exactly for a bargain either.

If trotting out an aging and mediocre Phillip Rivers is actually an option I'd rather roll the dice with Newton or draft a quarterback. If need be move some players of value to make that happen. Bringing in dinosaurs ready to retire won't wash away the mediocrity.

Could do worse, but what would be the point? Rivers could lead us to 8-8, 9-7 at best?

The team has two options right now:

  •  Cam is healthy and is our QB.
  •  Cam is gone, and it's time to find a new one...which to me means the 2021 draft unless we fall in love with Tua/Herbert or get lucky in the 2nd/3rd round. If the team gets gutted, time to acquire assets and lose some games in 2020.

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
