Let's formally divide into factions on Matt Rhule

I am a Rhuler!

However, it does concern me a bit that he gave the Giants an opportunity to match before committing.
That could mean that we are his 2nd choice (at least) but Tepper made him an offer to good to refuse. Bought him in other words.

So the question is...is he all in for more than himself. Time will tell. Hope he learns to bleed black and blue sooner than later.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there will be a large group straddling the fence to protect themselves and their huddle armchair GM status should things go south.

Count me in as a #Rhuler.

Of course, you could add a poll and make it public if you really wanted a list.

I don't think we are straddling the fence much, it's just that there are a lot more unknowns with a college coach than there are with existing NFL coaches/coordinators. There is at least a body of work to critique. That doesn't happen with college guys because college football and the reasons you are successful are LIGHT YEARS away from professional football.

I should not lump all the "straddlers" together.  There are at least 3 sub-groups;

There are those like you who give reasoned responses to their hesitation,

those who want to go on record once again that it could go one way or another,

and those who just like to $chit on everything in general.

Definitely think rhule will have us in contention next year and a powerhouse the year after...could go all the way either season just a contender has won the SB. So my answer is obvious and going with the trend of teams hea coached...only hes coming to a better team then the previous ones.

That's a bit extreme, I would say. The only chance I could buy into that future is if we get a healthy Cam return. This is a QB driven league and if he is not here in 2020, we are in trouble. If we are making a QB switch, we are probably not going to be a Super Bowl caliber team for at least a couple of years. It's not impossible or unprecedented but the odds are against it.

Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one’s view’s and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one’s valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.

I'll cheer for him.  Hell, I cheered for Clausen and Carr.  I mean, I'll cheer for anyone to have success that is a Panther.

but first take?

We drastically overpaid for a college football coach who doesn't have a great college resume by the standards we have always judged college coaches of the past that have made the jump.   Carroll? Saban? Kelly?  Those dudes won or competed for National Championships.  Powerhouses.   Baylor went 0-11 vs the top 25.

I mean, he could be great.   When we drafted Steve Smith I didn't think much of it either.

I support every coach we've had and the ones we now have. Until, like, their message grows stale, players quit on them or they only win one or two games well after their first year. If Rhule goes 4-12 his first season with this garbage defense, I can accept that.

But afterward, we should shoot for a winning record -- especially if we extend CMC.

    • I've really only begun to pay attention this week being that training camp is looming, so I was personally caught off guard by the fact that Nic Scourton remains unsigned. That's not necessarily bad news, but it's not necessarily good news either. Apparently it's a thing with this year's draft class. "Of the 32 players selected in the second-round, 30 remained unsigned and the clock is ticking. "Already we've seen one second-round pick hold out from the start of training camp with that player being Los Angeles Chargers' wide receiver Tre Harris. Harris did not report with the rest of the Chargers' rookies on Saturday due to his contract situation, a issue that could impact nearly every other team in the league. "For the Panthers, defensive end Nic Scourton is the player to watch for when rookies start showing back up to the team facilities next week. "The 51st overall pick is one of the 30 second-rounders who has yet to sign their rookie contract and the reason why is due to the other two that have actually signed. "Cleveland Browns' linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins each signed fully guaranteed contracts as the first and second players drafted in the second-round. Prior to this year, second-round picks never received a fully guaranteed deal, only players selected in the first-round." https://atozsports.com/nfl/carolina-panthers-news/panthers-nic-scourton-contract-second-round-pick-training-camp-hold-out-tre-harris/ So, I suppose we'll see what's what pretty soon. It's definitely something to monitor.
    • overwhelming majority of kids in travel ball aren't getting scholarships though because most teams are rec caliber (and not watched by scouts)    and parents/leagues sort of helped create this system and narrative IMO where travel ball is now oversaturated and most of it is simply expensive rec ball.  is travel beneficial for some athletes to get more exposure? Sure. The ones travel actually existed for.   I still think travel has expanded entirely too broad at this stage......where they will now have 5 teams per year in your backyard area pending they can get parents to write those checks.   Ain't no scout ever laying eyes on 90%+ of the kids in travel ball at this stage of where it has morphed into.
    • Im really curious to see how the defense is going to look once its playing with some leads.
