I don't want to draft Joe Burrow

i'd honestly rather wait a season than try to sell the farm for the next hot commodity just because he's recent.

Don't get me wrong, I really, really like Burrow and I'm not even a Bengals fan and I'll be mad if they fug this up.

But Burrows + the cost isn't gonna help us now, plus whatever the cost of trading up for him would net.

Note most teams that have traded up in recent seasons already had playoff caliber rosters. We've all heard the drum being banged on how the Bears passed on Mahomes, but like, he went to the Chiefs which was already a playoff team. Same with both Jackson and Watson.

Plenty of solid QBs next season. I really, really like Jamie Newman (hell I'd like him in the second this year if he came out instead of transfering.) and I just have a hard gut feeling we'll be picking early next year too so.

So it’s a “hell no” to trading for a likely franchise QB that would change the entire landscape of a rebuild process but you’d be tempted to trade up for a defensive end who doesn’t move the needle much in terms of an overall rebuild.

A great defensive end is pretty meaningless if you don’t have a QB worth a damn.

We have a QB that’s worth a lot more than a damn, and the DE moves the needle plenty, and would be a LOT cheaper. Not mortgaging two drafts and two star players on a “maybe” player that might just as well bust

Drafting any good QB in the first round would be suicide for said draftee behind our liquid dog poo of an O line, rebuilding it and the historically terrible D line have to be the priorities for the incoming staff.

yea....like buying a brand new corvette and parking it in a hail storm...

I would not want to take Burrow at #1, I did not want to take Cam at #1.  Odds are just too great for failure when taking a QB as first overall.

In the last 10 drafts, there have been 7 QB's drafted at at the top.  Not sure any will make the HOF.

Bradford

Newton

Luck

Winston

Goff

Mayfield

Murray

If I were Cincy, I would trade down and take the haul of picks

All conversation about pricing and cost is irrelevant at this point. All Burrow has to do is refuse to play for Cincinnati, as Elway and Manning did for Baltimore and San Diego years ago, and the cost of a trade for Carolina would lower considerably. Tepper is no fool. Neither is Burrow. He knows his talents would be wasted in Cincinnati, home town or not. You don't become a champ by avoiding risk. Bottom line is this. If Tepper wants Burrow, if Matt and Joe want Burrow, and if Burrow wants Carolina, you can bet Burrow will be in Carolina next year.

It's not something I can imagine happening.

Gotta admit though, Tepper is a wild card here. He's not afraid to go for broke to get what he wants.

If he wants Burrow, who knows?

are you confusing "going for broke" with "i have 11 billion and hiring an expensive staff is like pocket change for me"

hes aggressive , but i don't see that as going for broke.

Man.. it must be a lot of Cam lovers on here. I havent heard this much ignorance in one place in a very long time.  To the dude saying Tepper would go for broke because thats how heade his money.  Yes. he took risks. But they were calculated risks and selling the farm is not something he would see as calculated. It would be an emotional move. In the world of stocks we call thos FOMO. Fear of missing out.    To the cat saying Burrow cant throw sideline to sideline and only deep and intermediate routes..  2 things. You do realize that you score points by throwing forward and not sideways right? As well as how long has it been since we'ce had a qb that could drop absolute dimes deep down field? Ive got some ignorance for you. Cam goes to the Bengals with 2 first rds 2 2nd rds and a 3rd

    • WTF are you talking about? There is literally nothing east of Raleigh until you get to the coast.  Nothing really north either not that it matters. Y'all really want to believe Raleigh is some big-time place and Charlotte is bumpkinville. It's so provincial minded and frankly laughable. Unfortunately, actual demographics and reality paint a different picture. Raleigh homers are in a different class, man. A city of half a million whose inhabitants think they are some global city when most people living in this country don't even know where it's at...  And they think they're flexing by crapping on Charlotte in this forum... The insecurity is off the effing chart...
    • This is ridiculous and embarrassing... lol do you work for the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce? I mean sure Raleigh is perfectly ok, but you're acting like Raleigh is NYC and not half the size of Charlotte like it actually is. I know it's easy to crap on the Panthers and everything related to them, including Charlotte, but this blatant nonsense from someone who needs to travel outside the Carolinas a little bit... it would help you from making embarrassing small-town comments like this... For real, do you really believe that?  B/c if so, you really need to get outside of Wake County, NC some if you expect anyone to take you seriously...
    • I wish it started this month, theres about to be zilch on tv for sports unless you have the attention span for baseball
