Bruce Irvin talks poo

Is that talking poo? Looks more like talking nonsense.

I don't think it is talking poo.   Just poor wording.

The fact they lead the league in sacks while the season sucked....merely highlights how great the pass rush was at times. Teams generally acquire sacks because their opponent is trailing and playing catch up football.

He is just saying that, more often than not, they weren’t in a position to pin their ears back and really unleash.

I was just about to say that after thinking about it, he could've been implying we'd have more sacks if we weren't always losing 10-0 after the first 6-7 minutes.

BI has zero room to talk.  Our poor results last season were 75% on the defense.  A defense for which BI started most of the games he was healthy for.

If our 2019 defense was merely average, we would have been 8-8 last year.

yeah, I mean the fact the front 7 couldn't stop the run is why we sucked so hard.   Even w/ the backups at QB we were forced to play a middle of the road run defense would have likely lead to a slightly above .500 season.

Even if Bruce was implying the sack numbers could have been higher, 2nd isn't bad.  We were 1st most of the year anyway.  That said, 5, 7 or 10 more team sacks wouldn't have improved upon our horrible run defense.  Barely missing out on being the #1 in one statistical category is irrelevant when you are fending off dead last in another key defensive area.

16 interceptions through 8 games.

Pile on Irvin all you want, can't win like that in the NFL.

as bad as our offense was, our defense was historically bad at stopping the run.  and given our reliance on young QBs, it was particularly painful.  I don't think you can really put the blame on either unit.  both sucked when it mattered most.  the defense was unable to hold leads when we had them, was unable to keep the score close, our o was unable to hold onto the ball or build leads, was unable to punch it on at the goal line in pivotal situations.  just painful.

the pass rush was great, sure, but it came at a clear cost in the running game.

    • Taking only players from the sheet that are realistically available in or after the listed round, I’d like… 1st: DT Caleb Banks (Styles not realistic) 2nd: LB Jacob Rodriguez 3rd: OT Best available from Bowry, Barber, and Casey 4th: CB Daylen Everette 5th: S Jalen Huskey 6th: RB Adam Randall 7th: IOL Best available from Lemieux, Dawkins, Leausa, and Brose   I know nothing about some of the players listed, but it seems like that would be the best way it could fall for now. I’m sure the list of who we meet will change a ton, and there will also be players we don’t meet with to keep quiet. I’d love to pick up Randall in the late rounds.
    • Not what I said. They know within the building why we aren't utilizing TEs more. If the rumors were true that we were seriously pursuing a couple of decent receiving TEs that strongly points toward a lack of quality receiving TEs currently on the roster. Does that mean we consider drafting one at 19? I don't know, but it wouldn't shock me and if we did there's only one guy it would be. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see TE drafting somewhere in the first three rounds.
    • Yeah, I don’t know. Tepper was behind the Bryce selection. Behind firings and hiring over his lack of development.  He doesn’t have to literally tell them their hands are tied for them to know this. It is in the air constantly. The Canales Bryce play calling was even portrayed by more than one person as Canales failing Bryce, instead of Bryce being responsible for his own performance (except when he does well, then it is all him). Now they have an extra coach in, to help the new OC get results from this QB.  The atmosphere is not welcoming to prototypical young QBs that have talent. You get Jake Plummer types or old vets. I think we are stuck.
