Football players are probably in no more danger than any other bug that hits them during the season all the time.  Every year, we have reports of guys out with flu bugs that hits teams.  No reason for them not to get together unless they live with their grandparents or something.

Because my wife has been in private country club management for almost 30 years now, I can safely say what the president of the club said about "over half of the employees decided to walk out" comment was a dick move and totally uncalled for. You just made life miserable for the general manager, whom those employees work for. The president is probably a 2-year term president of the board of governors.

The privileged country club types wanted their restaurants opened weeks ago, were bitching about not being able to use the pool and were complaining about all the inconveniences. I know this as I got to read a lot of emails from members. Because private country clubs are often 501(c)7 operations, they weren't afforded to eligibility of payroll protection and my wife was forced to lay off about 35 people, which was extremely difficult on her as well as the employees. Now that some of the operation is slowly opening, some of those employees don't want to come back to work now that they're collecting unemployment +$600 extra a week.

But hey, those privileged country clubs are not somewhere the coronavirus goes, right? Rich white people don't get this, do they?

Wow, very insightful and credible medical advice here. Thanks, Dr Scholls.

700-some hospitalizations out of 23,000 confirmed cases out of a population of 10.5 million. Use precautions, but keep things open. Those at risk have to use the utmost cautions.

Considering we have trouble getting Americans to stand properly in a single file line? How’s that “using the utmost caution” working out? How embarrassing for you.

Due to the player's age range, it is very unlikely to have any serious or long lasting medical ramifications.  The people who are of concern are the older coaches.

True, but most people I do see wearing masks are the demographic that is the most vulnerable to complications, the elderly.  If I were over 60, I would not go anywhere without a mask nor venture out much at all for that matter.  Honestly, most of these people are retired so leaving their house outside of a grocery run is unnecessary anyway.

We will see how this goes over in a couple of weeks.  I see people here locally still distancing without getting weird about it.  Mostly the people that aren't distancing while out are family members (restaurants, sidewalks, shopping) and they are already exposed to one another.  Strangers are still by and large trying keep some distance between themselves.

The problem is that unless you're wearing a legit N95 respirator, your mask is only protecting others from you, not you from others. If you're out and about wearing your cloth mask or surgical mask while everyone else is wearing nothing, you're really not that much more protected than if you were also wearing nothing. It's why we need municipalities to pass legislation forcing mask wearing for awhile with steep fines for not doing so. People are just too damn dumb to listen to recommendations to wear them and way too many are in the elite dumbass category where they view not wearing a mask as some sort of political statement.

I was out this weekend a few times and no one is using masks anymore. A few weeks ago 80% of people I saw had them. Now, maybe 10% are using them.

Mask usage is still fairly common here in VA Beach.

Still waiting on my unemployment...

These mythical $600 checks plus unemployment sounds amazing.  March 20th was my last pay day before lock down.  I'm back to work now but it would be nice to get those payments to help replenish my emergency funds.

It’s weird... I know some people who have no issues getting unemployment checks and others who can’t get them.

I spent the last couple of days driving across the country from CO to NC. Mask wearing in CO ranges from near 100% in my town to above 50% most places. Mask wearing in Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and NC has been hovering very near zero.

You don’t even know the half of it.

You are a visionary for sure

The medical numbers have told us since Jan to keep older folks and those with underlying health conditions safe.  For all the hyperbole and sensational headlines, it pretty much stands true today.  Like we were arguing 300 pages ago, if we could keep grandma away from the grandchildren, we could have operated like normal and probably not have shut the economy down.

But, we shut the world down and did not keep grandma safe, we moved Covid patients into grandmas room.

Dr Scholls indeed might have done a better job

Checkout the videos of NYC from this past weekend. Maybe 5% mask usage in these big street parties.

Of all the places....

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
