Cam forced into a trade

They at least tried to keep Kemba but are just fuged financially for another year or two because of the Batum contract. They should have known he wasn’t going to take a discount and traded him when they had the chance. Regardless, at least our young players are showing promise and are fun to watch.

Watching the Panthers makes my eyes bleed. Would have went 0-16 without Cmc.

No they cheaped out on Kemba too, maybe more so than the Panthers did Cam considering there were no health issues and he's in his prime. He even indicated he'd take a discount for Charlotte and didn't need a supermax contract. Should have at least offered the halfway between the league max and the supermax at $180m. They offered less than $160m, which is a little more than what he could have gotten from the rest of the league and insulting. Jordan could have paid the luxury tax if he really wanted to keep Kemba so the team's finances aren't even that relevant.

Kemba and Cam are the biggest stars to come out of Charlotte and when they needed some reciprocation their franchises got frugal.

the most recent indications were that Newton was indeed willing to play out the last year of his contract.

Apparently, the team wanted to move on anyway.

I know we heard the news about Newton being allowed to seek a trade before we heard the news about Bridgewater, but it's kind of hard not to believe that the Panthers closing in on Bridgewater was a factor in them telling Newton he could seek a trade.

I once saw a guy break up with a girl by introducing her to his new girlfriend. This kind of reminds me of that.

But why did they want to move on? Did they simply believe he'd never be the QB he was? They had to know that healthy Cam>>>> Bridgewater.

I love Cam but if he wouldn't play without a extension then we have to trade him. You don't give a extension to a player who has been hurt for almost two years without seeing play at least a full season.

I could not agree more.  Not going to be the same with out Cam but at this point it is time to cut bait if Cam and his agent wanted an extension  without proof he can stay healthy.

Getting the vibe Dave Tepper's personal view of Newton is not at all far off from some of the usual suspects here that whined about his press conference attire or being too emotional on the football field.

Definitely hoping I'm wrong, because it spells disaster for upcoming contracts.

Also, how do young players like Moore, CMC, Burns, and Thompson for example view the way we've gone about this with their own futures in mind?

I stand by my statement that this will either lead to great things or even more disaster for this franchise. There's no wiggle room.

Using a timeline format, over the last 4 years, count the games during that time Cam was healthy?  Playing hurt is not healthy.   On your calculator, enter the number of games he was healthy.  Then divide the number of healthy games by the amount of money he was paid during the current contract.  In the window, convert the answer to dollars to calculate the amount we paid Cam when he was healthy per game.

The answer to your question will appear in numeric form.

People say his contract was a bargain and he deserves and extension.  Does he?
