Will Grier

I seriously think that if we signed a random Harris Teeter cashier as quarterback through some sort of clerical error, and that cashier showed absolutely no talent whatsoever, but was playing in difficult circumstances, there would be a vocal minority on this board claiming that we haven't really seen what the cashier could do behind a real offensive line and in Brady's system.

Will Grier SUCKED. He sucked at throwing footballs through the air. He demonstrated no other talents, either. Just because he was in a bad situation doesn't mean he was a promising player that we need to see more of. He was a bad player in a bad situation. We don't need him going forward for any reason.

LOL! Brutal, but not exactly inaccurate. Certainly more accurate than Will Grier throwing footballs.

I thought Grier would be the odd man out, I was wrong.  Guess he could still be exited but his chances turned up with this move.

I thought the same.

Although, this is may not a stay of execution.  They may just be running late in taking the order for his last meal.

I have nothing against the guy so I'm rooting for him, but damn he looked bad last year. Like worse than Jimmy Clausen bad.

I think his chances of being on the roster this season are slim to none. Signing two free agent QBs this off-season sends a pretty clear message to the QBs on the roster from last season. They're definitely looking to replace you.

He also didn’t have DJ Moore to throw to because Moore got hurt like five plays into his debut, and the Clausen comparison makes me laugh bc he had far more yards in his first game than Clausen ever did in a game here. Look it up.

not saying he’s more than a third stringer, but a lot of times it’s not so cut and dry as people like to think. Hell, two of the three picks he threw at Indy went right in his WRs’ hands and got stolen. If people use those as justification for him sucking, it says a lot more about their lack of intellect than anything about a player.

Enter this thread to see people bashing Hurney, but at least 30-40% of the huddle wanted us to take this guy just as bad as he did. Some even thought he wouldn't last past the second round. So many chickenshits hiding from their takes now.

Yeah, the people who claim he was in this uniquely bad position are overlooking the fact that Kyle Allen as bad as he looked at times looked infinitely better in the same situation than Grier ever did.

Kyle Allen received the benefit of getting 1st team snaps in practice while Will Grier just got thrown in the game: sink or swim scenario, and he sank

    • The bad thing is that Xavier Legette kind of ignored the Jugs machine his rookie season. The good thing is that he's committed to it now. Catching is important to an NFL receiver (sarcasm), but, perhaps just as important is a receiver's---any player's---mindset.  "This offseason, the young wideout has gotten back to something in terms of preparation (Jugs machine). 'Oh man, it’s always been something I’ve done, and I don’t know why, but I felt like I could take a little breath,' explained Legette (via Darin Gantt of Panthers.com). 'And when you’re playing in this game, you can never do that. It’s always a way to get better, and that’s one of the ways to help with catching. For sure, for sure. In my mind, I’m thinking about ways, things I can do. What can I do to have less drops this coming season in Year 2? 'The whole mindset has changed, man,' added Legette. 'Trying to do anything I got to. I’m sacrificing a lot of things that I used to do outside of the building to put my work inside the building.'" https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/xavier-legette-focused-on-reducing-drops-that-plagued-rookie-year-with-panthers-01k1692c0tz9 So, yeah, it wasn't good coming in taking some things for granted, but Legette is young. His mentality appears to have changed and he appears to be maturing and he's been putting in a lot of work by all accounts.  I know some of you are down on him, but I still have faith. Last season was a disjointed mess in its entirety, but there were still some flashes, particularly with route running. With Legette's seemingly better fit as the WR2, mindset and focus---doing his actual job catching the ball---he should be able to improve.
    • It is worth noting the fanbase has long held a love hate relationship with PFF over the years. Now that we are employing some of their people and actively using their data in our roster building approach going forward this should serve as the end all be all to any debate. This is either going to end really well or really bad. It's the Panthers. So save your energy and give it some time.
    • And to be honest, we weren't really talking about PFF grades either. I brought it into the conversation via a pic that's LLM-related (which apparently some Huddlers took issue with) as an aside for providing more specificity than just sheer numbers
