Who's the villain in the story?

I think it's a mixed bag with each playing a part.

Ron for having no spine.

JR for only caring about mediocrity.

Marty for being incompetent.

Cam for hiding injuries, delaying surgeries.

Those 4 deserve the most blame.

Then there is DG, Tepper, Brady and Rhule with each a bit of blame as well.

Said it elsewhere: Yeah, Marty's incompetent but I have a hard time putting much of this on him.

That Rivera mishandled Newton is something I'm pretty sure a solid percentage of the fanbase agrees with.

The lion's share of the responsibility for the poor handling of the release though I think has to go to Tepper, and yes to some extent, Matt Rhule.

I'm wondering who people feel shoulders the majority of the blame for the way Cam Newton's Panthers career is ending.

The viable candidates...

Ron Rivera - accused by many of misusing Newton and wasting his career

Marty Hurney - never built a winning roster around him, but was reported to have wanted to extend him

Dave Gettleman - built the rosters that supprted Newton's most successful seasons before Jerry Richardson let him go

Matt Rhule - gave plenty of lip service to wanting to coach Newton but ultimately was on board with moving on

Joe Brady - gave the Panthers a viable alternative in Teddy Bridgewater and effectively backed him.over Newton

Jerry Richardson - team owner over most of Newton's career; enabler of mediocrity for the entire franchise existence up to his departure

David Tepper - stifled efforts by Hurney and Rivera to offer Newton an extension; used the phrase "if healthy" ad infinitum

Cam Newton - hid injuries that ultimately helped derail his career, something that (let's be real) all athletes do, and it's not like nobody could see he was hampered

You've seen the choices. So in your mind, who's the real villain here?

Make your case.

@Mr. Scot you know the answer to that question.

With Shefter's Tweet that Newton passed a physical and is healthy, it puts it more on Joe Brady. Brady chose Bridgewater over Newton.

I can't believe I just typed that.

Not a lot of people are talking about Joe Brady, but I do think you'd have to say he plays a role here.

If nothing else, Brady is the reason why we have Teddy Bridgewater. He endorsed Bridgewater as a solid bridge / replacement. And the securing of Teddy Bridgewater is what made it possible to move on from Newton.

Do with that what you will.

This team won the NFC South three times in a row and prior to that no team had ever won it back to back.  Then went 15-1 and could have won the Super Bowl.  You know how hard it is to do these things and Cam doesn't have to play another down of football and his legacy is strong.
