This year's draft could get really interesting

this draft process lends itself to our ability to evaluate players on tape, other knowledge about prospects, and willingness to use alternative means of learning about the players.

Certainly Rhule and staff will know college prospects better, and hopefully are good at watching tape. I gotta think Tepper is willing to spend anything on any tech we can use to be in contact with prospective players and communicate/learn as much as possible within the current NFL rules.

I feel good about us going into the draft, honestly especially in the later rounds. If we can get a Hurney ceritified 1st rounder, I believe in Rhule and his staff to pick the diamonds out of the rest of the rounds based on the above. Rhule and staff will know where to look.

I think more than anything, background checks and personality profiles could be affected more than on field evaluations. GMs won’t have the same means of researching a players makeup , getting out and speaking with teammates, meeting family etc.

Teams have been known to hire private investigators to find out details about prospects. The times just won’t allow it. Gotta adjust on the fly

Good point. Guys with character concerns may be impacted more than guys with injuries.

I think that some folks here are GREATLY overestimating the knowledge Rhule and his staff will be bringing to the table.  Sure, they'll know Temple and LSU.  They'll have a good idea with regards to teams that Temple and LSU played this year.  But that's what?  25-30 college teams?

There are 125 Division 1 programs.  Don't even get me started on the lower divisions.

This falls on our college scouts, make no mistake about it.

These guys recruited hundreds of players from all over the country. They recruited guys they didnt even have a realistic shot at getting. They’ll be familiar with most of these players in some capacity. If not, they have great connections to guys that do.

Smart teams will still find a way to build a good draft board and have a successful draft. Other teams will watch Marty Hurney throw poo at the wall.

I get the sense you're trying to say something here

I remember Joe Dumars said he wasnt prepared for his first draft as GM with the Pistons, so he just looked at the players available and took the one he recognized the most (Mateen Cleaves).

I think many teams dont even do much prep for their actual picks, they just draft H/W/S or go by well known rankings anyways.  Other teams would probably benefit from not completely overthinking the picks and outsmarting themselves.

Back when I was in junior high, we played against a team they had only been able to practice for two days because their coach had health problems. The results were pretty much what you'd expect.

I could see this draft being something like that on a much larger scale.
