Sigh, it didnt have to be done.  We pumped up his stats and then paid him for it.  It makes no sense.  Let him play 2020 out with the new regime and then see what you have

Did you even watch him play?  Our team sucked ass but he did something only 2 other players ever did.  He’s an amazing RB.

And if our team was worth a damn he would’ve been used properly and not force fed. Some of you are clearly bigger fans of CMC than you are the Panthers as a whole.

This organization has chosen to ignore the current day model of how a championship caliber team is built.

This won’t end well.

“Christian McCaffrey is not one of the best players in the NFL”

ok buddy, believe what you want to lol

That's not even a realistic argument to make. You can make plenty of arguments about positional value, wear, impact on wins, etc, etc.

You can't make a real argument that he isn't one of the NFL's best players.

Depends on how you define best players,  there are at least 20 guys above him easily.  Probably closer to 30 or more.  Running back do not move the needle any more.

This is great news, not sure why many of you are upset that we just re-signed one of the top-10 players in the NFL

We are upset because he probably won't be a top 10 player for the latter part of that contract. It would have been a smarter move to 5th year option him and then franchise tag him the year after. Would have been wayyy cheaper and he is going to decline after that 6th year due to usage, age, and possibly injury. You basically paid him in a way where your assuming hes going to have this production for the next 6 years which is highly unlikely.

He did deserve a pay raise tho. This probably wasn't the best way to give it to him as it will hurt the team greatly in building a long term winning team. Its like giving old Greg Olsen or old Steve smith a contract extension paying them 10mil into their mid 30s which is not a smart move. We eat alot of dead cap because of feel good moves like that. I will say CMC is still super young but the way we are using him it will age/damage his body twice as fast.

We don’t have a lot of choices right now man.  Personally I wouldn’t kept Cam, waited to sign CMC until next year, and drafted heavily in defense after the offseason purge/offensive signings we had.  But after the moves we’ve made so far, signing CMC was good.  What I don’t agree with is signing Teddy to a lucrative deal, then having most of our WR be deep threats.  That was dumb.  But we are where are, and CMC is gonna be teddy’s best friend.

It’s the last year of his rookie deal. 5th year options changed in the new CBA. If CMC makes the pro bowl this year his 5th year would be the same as a franchise tag. We wouldn’t save any money with the 5th year and honestly the next 5 years (last year of rookie deal) are going to be his prime years including last year. Year 4 of extension isn’t guaranteed so it could just be a 3 year extension if he shows any decline in his 27 year old year.

Damn.  Someone speaking who actually knows something and doesn’t have an agenda.  Refreshing
