He will literally only be 28 when this contract expires

David Johnson is 28 and Gurley is 25.  Age for a running back amplifies especially with the way we give him the ball.  This was so stupid and so unnecessary in todays NFL.  We held all of the cards.

The NFL has shown even the best RBs in the NFL hit a wall hard and/or very expendable and that it's much easier to find a serviceable RB and that you don't need an extraordinary one to have a successful offense. We make ours the highest paid in history. Lolll. This team is a complete joke.

Literally no one would care if you began pulling for another team.

History repeats itself. The ones ok with this will be angry with Hurney about it soon enough.

I'm not a fan of Hurney but this a fair deal for a RB headed into his prime years that could also start at WR for many teams. Very few players in the history of the NFL have the unique skills Christian has. He is a weapon that gives DCs nightmares.

Extending him now while he’s still only 23 was the perfect move.

If we waited to extend him after he played out his 5th year option, and then a franchise tag, then that would have been a huge mistake.

I’ll take a 4 year extension while he’s still only 23 and has plenty of bright days ahead of him vs making this same deal but for more money when he’s 26 or 27.

With as many carries as he’s had over the past 3 seasons including touches out of the passing game his body is really that of a 30+ year old. You can’t sustain that level of play

He is 2 players in one, so think of it as 8M/8M for one of the best RBs/WRs in the NFL.

This.  The guy would prob be the best slot WR in the league if he wanted to be.  Can’t say that about many, if any, other RB.

In his last two years he was first and third in the NFL in touches. We're stuck paying for that kind of workload now, even though it's almost definitely not sustainable for another five years.

We also don’t have a head coach anymore who notoriously rode players into the ground.

Well, not surprising that Hurney overpaid a running back. Call that the least surprising thing this off-season.

Well, it will work out great for CMC, which is a positive. It will likely not work out well for the Panthers, which is a negative.

More fuel to the "I have no idea what we are fuging doing" fire.

We fired the coach who abuses the hell out of players.
