you're arguing right now predominantly with a group of people that like both QBs.  the mods have been taking out the troll posts from this thread.  there are plenty of other threads you can post your take in RE: cam vs teddy.

Cam had a very good game.  He moved the ball when he needed to and protected it. Teddy did enough that we could have won the game, but our defense was garbage, and when it really mattered, the coaches took the ball out of his hands.

I'm happy with both their debuts.  I didn't expect us to win, or even be as competitive as we were, without preseason etc.

Not arguing--made statistical points that are the typical measures of a QB and was accused of "fake stats."  LOL.  Then I got, "Well you did not say...." to be honest, in the rating systems for today's performance, they were both around 100.  I am just saying that he cannot keep dropping his shoulder to plow over LBs at the goal line like he did today.  This is not madden or fantasy---you have to look long term.  So if you go back to 2016-2019, Cam had some great plays.  But he gets hurt running the ball.  So if he runs the ball, it is not ideal--wait until he has to bring a team from 12 back like Teddy did today.

it is not "typical" to ignore Cam's TDs when discussing his games.  the only people to do that have an agenda to push.  As to injuries, Cam has has plenty of time to rest and this is his game.  It is about him playing now, not about "saving" himself for future seasons - and the reason is because if you look at Cam Newton's injury history, it was much less him running and more bad OL or extra effort (remember when KB gave up on a play and Cam got fuged for it?).  Cam's career as a Panther was cut short as much by not building what he really needed as it was anything else.

Teddy didn't bring the team back unfortunately, he fell short. Not his fault IMO.

I actually think several of our rookies had some good plays. DB swallowed the entire OL on many plays.  Pride early had a couple plays I thought.  Same with Chinn.

I was not happy with any LB.  I also didn't really see much out of Burns, which was disappointing.  But I didn't expect much out of the D, so seeing some rookies have some nice plays... that was good.

Agreed that Brown did his job filling up the running lanes on his side. The problem is teams will just run away from him because of the many other holes we have on D.

Chinn played solid also. He made some good tackles and showed his quickness

Regarding Cam, I read a little of the Patriots board today.  They liked his play for the most part, but they are concerned about his ability to remain healthy.  Apparently, the Pats used him today in much the same way that we did in 2015.  If accurate, I would also be very concerned about his ability to remain healthy.  That concern was likely a big part of why we released him.

He may have gotten banged up in 2015, but remember we tried repeatedly to change how we were using him and his injuries happened regardless of that.

    • If his seat was hot enough for him to be fired 6 games in then you should've just fired him when you made the decision to draft a QB #1 overall. I don't think you go from "this is definitely our guy" to "you're fired in 6 games". Seems like there would be had to have been doubts going in and that's not a recipe for success for a rookie QB.
    • I like to use the analogy that a high draft pick QB is like a new supercar. Great to have one except too often, one forgets that they are high maintenance. A bad team secures their car under a cheap tent, puts regular gas in the tank, services it at Pep Boys, and then blames the car for not working properly and proceeds to get another one.  At the least, Ward getting sacked 25 times already is a massive red flag. If you can't protect your rookie QB, you do not put him out there. Otherwise, it's taking your supercar and immediately spinning it right into a tree. A few survive that rough of a start. Most do not.
    • I don't think there's any one size fits all answer. I think you play the rookie when A) you think he's ready and B) you think there's a reasonable expectation that the overall situation provides him an opportunity to be successful, not necessarily in terms of wins and losses but just in terms of giving him a fighting chance with surrounding talent. If you rush either one it's probably not gonna be pretty.
