I mean Favre was traded By Atlanta,  Brees was not resigned By the Chargers, etc.  it happens.  Amazing to me how this Board hugs the nuts of a kicker.  Hell all teams make decisions that turn out to be bad for them.

Yeah, but Butker was such an obviously bad decision at the time.

Plus, it’s just such a typical Hurney decision.

Tons of kickers look good in the preseason and then fail.  Do I think we should have kept Butker?  Yes, 100%.  Do I think we should still be talking about years later?  Nope.

Seems to be a lot of people who think we should. Tough break.

Wasn’t like it was an easy one.  We carried two kickers as long as we could, then placed Butker on the PS.  He ended up being snatched.  It’s not like Hurney didn’t realize the talent that was there.  He just went with the Vet over the rookie. Something Rivera was always known for.  Wouldn’t be shocked if it was Rivera’s influence rather than a Hurney decision. After all, once Rivera was gone Gano was cut.

For those tht did not see the sequence -

he kicked a 53 yarder that was nullified by penalty.

he then kicked a 58 yarder that was nullified by timeout.

he then nailed a 58 yarder that probably woulda been gone from 65 yards.

insane.

He's currently kicking at a level we haven't seen before in the league. Amazing (and told you guys so in 2017).

Without going into too much detail, have known him and his family for a decade+. Great people – super happy for him. He'll be a Hall of Famer if he keeps this up.

we all saw him kick so much better than gano in 2017. people were begging to keep him. but the "smartest men in the room" said otherwise. this is why this team has 0 lombardis

And why does Hurney still have a job?

It blows my mind. Just shows you how dysfunctional our organization is. People who praise our left wing extremist owner, well he’s the one who had nothing but great things to say about Hurney and decided to keep him around.  Just lol. CMC, demand a trade asap. And if you’re reading this, don’t come back until you’re 100% healthy and then some.

Rivera made that call.  He always preferred vets.  As soon as Rivera was given the boot, so was Gano.
