In which I stay positive and the Panthers haters rage

It's entirely possible we are much worse in late Nov/Dec. We definitely have been competitive so far but it is also possible attrition may make our situation far worse(we'll get a sneak peek at this the next 4-8 weeks).

That is a possibility for every NFL team at this point.  It seems like injuries are piling up across the league.

We are at a little more risk for this sort of dramatic drop off only because we are already so thin as it is.

Then again, I don't know that any significant losses on defense would have a big impact. They are already so bad it probably wouldn't matter.

Yeah, again. OU-Bama in 2019 was thought of as a game that wasn't competitive and OU lost by 11. OU was down 28-0 in the first half, only 7 points more than the Panthers.

You also said the first game wasn't competitive.

So, I woke up this morning and enjoyed some coffee while reading this joint and reflecting on the loss yesterday.

And you know what, I'm not even mad.

The Carolina Panthers sit at 0-2, just like last season. But instead of looking out atthe deep dark yawning chasm of missed opportunities and more of the same monotonous crap year after year after year, we have something quite new.

We have one of the youngest teams in the league with brand new NFL coaches including the youngest offensive coordinator in the league going toe to toe with established NFL teams. And you know what? It has been pretty damn close each week.

A rocky start followed by effective adjustments (wtf are adjustments?) and comebacks making the games interesting well into the 4th quarter. The Panthers adjusted and went with primarily a three man rush while dropping OLBs in coverage and you know what? It worked. Tom Brady went just 6-of-12 in the second half for 19 yards. That in itself is pretty damn impressive.

If not for Teddy's turnovers yesterday the Carolina Panthers would have won the game. If not for crucial 3rd down penalties that extended Bucs drives yesterday, the Carolina Panthers may have won the game. These things can all be fixed and are not intrinsic flaws within the team.

In conclusion, these are growing pains we all expected. The good news is the Panthers are not getting blown out. They are scrapping the entire game and making it competitive. Sure, it sucks now. But I still believe, as I have said all along, that the Panthers will start winning games as the season goes on.

Now back to my coffee.

Love you,

JI

It's possible but they are using him like a RB in New England and he is healthy so far.

I feel like getting hit/blind sided in the pocket are where most QB injuries happen. Designed runs let him brace/absorb some of the impact. I could be wrong, but I know the TJ Watt hit that ruined his shoulder was in the pocket...

Excellent perspective @Jeremy Igo!

This looks like an NFL team.  Not a good one, but a competitive team that's going to fight.

I'll take it rather than the half ass games we're used to getting.  In time, we'll get better.  This is going to be a much more exciting team come November/December, thankfully!

Don't count on November/December for excitement. What we mostly have starting on Defense and the O-line are rookies or vets who didn't start anywhere else last year. The odds are that those players will wilt by November. That's if they avoid the injury bug.

I was saying that before the draft, but the response here was just crickets. Everyone said Ian Thomas was going to make it. I said, no one had seen any real evidence of that in a game so far. They said I wasn't paying attention.

I'm still seeing nothing from Ian Thomas except for a continuing stint on riding the bench. I wish we were seeing more, but when you are actually calling plays that include a pass to Manhertz, a blocking specialist(???really???) TE, then you can't be thinking your pass catching tight end can do the job.

This I agreed with. I was praying we drafted a good TE because Thomas was not that.

The pushing of everything is great let’s be positive narrative has been extremely weird. I don’t know if it’s better for business around here or what l, but it’s been very weird. I don’t remember this attitude when cam was still around. Either way it is absolutely ridiculous to think that way when Marty Hurney is still employed by this team. There is no future or possible positive outcome with him still employed. This has been proved over 2 decades.

can you imagine any other franchise allowing a cam newton to walk out the door on a 1 year contract and getting literally nothing in return? Then to make things worse they go out and sign an inferior quarterback for more money and longer term. If you’re trying to spin that as a positive then you have an agenda.

bro, there is a ron rivera is gone party going on in here and a fresh start vibe.  that's what happening with the people who aren't crapping their pants after 2 games with a new everything and a truncated offseason, and a program and culture we all knew would take a few years to build.  be happy for cam and be happy for this team because there is finally some hope for both.

edit:  and we all agree with you about marty
