New weirdness in New Orleans

The Athletic had an article about this today.  The fine wasn't about the fight.  The coaches. including Patyon,  tried to talk to him, and he yelled at them.  Other players talked to him, including Brees, but apparently same result.  The fine was to warn him not to disrespect the coaches.

His tweets, both today and in the past, aren't exactly encouraging.  Turns out this has been going on for a while, and a close teammate told the coaches before the season they needed to get him in line.  There is a problem, and how he responds over the next couple of weeks is going to tell what happens.

Hard to believe, but there are plenty on the Saints board who have no problem with getting rid of him.

Reading this made me think of the old axiom

No matter how hot she is, someone out there is sick of dealing with her poo

Were he to part ways with the saints other teams would be wise to heed this

from the article

Antonio Brown, whose off-field misconduct and legal issues far supercede Thomas’ transgressions, led the NFL in receiving yards in 2017 and in touchdown receptions in 2018. A year later he was out of football, having been ditched by three teams in the span of six months.

If a seven-time Pro Bowler like Earl Thomas can become radioactive so, too, can Thomas.

not sure how much I can post here from a pay site like the Athletic, even with the link.  Hope I'm not breaking a rule.

Hopefully, Thomas returns from his suspension with a changed attitude and a fresh outlook. If so, then the entire ordeal would have been worth the image hit he suffered.

Officially, Thomas was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. Unofficially, the Saints sat him because of insubordination.

Multiple sources said the suspension had less to do with Thomas’ role in a fight with teammate C.J. Gardner-Johnson during practice on Saturday than it did his actions after the fracas. Thomas, they said, talked back to coaches, including Payton, and obstinately refused counsel afterward.

Make no mistake, the Saints were sending a message to Thomas by sitting him down for the nationally televised game. They easily could have masked the situation by listing his ankle injury as the reason to sideline him against the Chargers. No one would have been the wiser.

Instead, team officials conspicuously changed the designation of Thomas’ playing status from “questionable” to “out — non-injury related” on the official injury report.

For a team that notoriously keeps its internal affairs under wraps, the transaction was a clear sign that they wanted this dirty laundry aired.

Drew Brees said Monday night he and other team leaders have spoken to Thomas about the situation.

If this were an isolated incident, then it would be easy for the Saints to dismiss it and move on. But it’s only part of a pattern of troubling behavior for the enigmatic All-Pro receiver.

On one hand, Thomas is a maniacal worker who sets a daily example for teammates with his competitive drive  too often Thomas’ behavior has crossed the line, earning him a reputation among Saints football operations and support staff that can best be described as “difficult.”

Sources said Thomas barked at team trainers for failing to tape his ankle properly and accused one administrative staffer of illegally going through his mail. Thomas’ unpredictable, aloof personality has alienated members of the team’s public relations staff and led to social media snipes at opposing players and local reporters, frustrating the club’s brain trust.

His churlish behavior became so troublesome one Thomas confidant prodded Payton to address it one-on-one during training camp.

Thomas apparently received the message because from all accounts his behavior had improved this season. Saturday’s incident was clearly a major setback.

“What makes him great is also what makes him difficult,” a source close to Thomas said. “Michael can be his own worst enemy at times.”

I don't know what it is about the WR position, but damn if it hasn't always had far more than it's fair share of divas.

This sounds like it might go a little beyond just diva behavior.

With regard to Brown, some have speculated that he suffers from some sort of mental illness. Sad to say, these stories make me wonder a little about Thomas too.

Sometimes I wonder if the years of concussions or "supplements" some athletes take just makes them frikkin' lose their minds. Sometimes you hear these crazy a$$ stories about what they say or what they do and you're like, "Nah, can't be."

Then the next thing you hear they've gone completely off their rockers.

It's got to be worrying someone out there.

I imagine the women they involve themselves with are probably very bad for their mental health.

Makes me wonder a lot about Thomas. Whenever someone is insubordinate to coaches, that's a huge red flag.

he came out today and tweeted that he was out healing from his injury after a setback and wasn't coming back until after the bye anyway

Which means his first game back will be against us. Yay.
