Yah I don’t think we’re in a position that allows us to spend the type of money he’s looking to get now on a WR3.

We have an entire OL that needs to be built with the only good one being a UFA after this season.

I hope Hurney and co. are discussing what exactly their plan is this offseason with their budget. If they know Samuel isn’t in the cards then they need to get something for him before Tuesday. Last night’s game was a good value booster. You don’t want to stunt this teams growth and Samuel helps move the chains but you also don’t want to be losing guys and getting nothing in return for them when building from essentially scratch like we are now.

We need a WR3.  Curtis Samuel hasn't done anything for a team to offer him a huge contract.  His stats are pretty on par with last season thus far.  I think people are just making knee jerk reactions off a few nice run plays.  No team in the NFL is going to overpay for a gimmick WR3.  He will be affordable.

I would only do it for a 3rd or better. Dollar Store Dave might be interested in getting a guy he drafted back. Rumors are he was trying to get Golladay from the Lions but they won a couple games the Lions were no longer interested in selling.

Trading young players in a rebuild seems pretty counterintuitive.  Why would he not be part of the future plans?  I doubt any team would give us any significant value for him either.

It’s just a cap space issue.  He’s young, yes, but it’s the last year of his rookie deal.  A rookie deal that was mostly squandered by buffoonery in the offensive coaching department.  I’d love to resign Samuel, but he’s been playing well this season and idk If what he’s demanding is something we can afford with all the holes on this roster. We have more needs than a good WR3.

He seems to have a good relationship with DJ and is being used better than he has been in the past, so I’m hoping he’ll stay, but all it takes is 1 team to make an big offer and he’s gone. I never underestimate the desperation of another team that just needs “one more player” to get them over the hump

He'll be another player we watch walk in free agency and get nothing in return for

Well if we do resign him and he does get a decent contract during FA then we get a comp pick back. So I would try to trade him, but if not, if hes worth anything and gets picked up in the offseason we will still get something for him.

You and I have different assumptions. The guy knows how to score. GMs pay heavily for players who can score.

As many needs as we have, you can't count on comp picks. We'll be signing FAs and those will eliminate comp picks

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
