Canfora says we'll be open to adding young front 7 before trade deadline

I'd take Ian Thomas+5th for Zach Cunningham (Houston)

He's actually quite close to what we need.  Closes gaps quickly, plays tight zone, used to having increased responibilities with only 2 LBs nickel packages.  Houston plays variations of 4-3 and he could compliment Shaq a ton better than Whitehead.

Houston is selling for a retool around Watson.  If we're buying, that's exactly the type of player to target.

That would be a great option if that worked out. Would love an good mlb and signing Douglas to an extension. Then we can focus rounds 1-3 of the draft on OL/QB

I agree, but Rasul Douglas is looking like a centerpiece for the future and we got him for nothing.  If there's something a scout sees that might fit in our system, might take a late round flyer and use the remainder of the season to evaluate for the future.

Pat Stewart probably helped that happen.

First week or two of the season there tends to be a fair amount of shuffling. Not as much by week eight, though some teams are bad enough by midpoint that they do start looking to the future.

FYI theres about 5 teams(not including panthers) that desperately need ILB, its a huge league need.

The best hope is one of the current PS guys can fill the role next season- Orr or Clay "played at Baylor" Johnston

I just dont see why the panthers would add anyone, but Ive been wrong before.

Don’t pay attention to what Canfora says about the Panthers, he’s reported multiple false news about them in years past...the biggest one being when he mentioned Panthers were going to fire Hurney back in early 2018.

Yeah, he's seemed completely cut off from reliable sources since he left the NFL Network.

On that front, the Steelers just traded for Avery Williamson from the Jets.  Believe it was a 5th for 7th swap included.  That would've been as close to what we're looking for as I can think of...  not sure of his salary though

Avery Williamson is on a 5 million salary and an UFA in 2021.

He is an 8 game rental.

Steelers are contenders.  They are fine with 8 game rentals if it pushes them to a Superbowl win.  An 8 game rental is silly for the Panthers to give up any draft assets for.

I mentioned him in a thread a few weeks ago but at that time we were 3-2. It made some sense then, but he is in the last year of his contract so making that deal now at 3-5 staring the Chiefs and 3-6 in the face would be pretty dumb. He is someone I would take a look at in free agency if he can be had for a reasonable deal.

Fun fact about Williamson is he is the guy that tried to fight Cam for dancing in the end zone in the 2015 Titans game.
