I thought his cap number was a lot bigger than that just from remembering the numbers of the contract.

Read the article. They don't have to pay anything but the pro-rated salary which was less than 1 million this year. Of which about half has been paid. San Fran is on the hook for all the pro rated bonus related aspects as they would have already paid them.

Per Schefter.

How tf do they keep making these moves and creating cap room?

There's this voodoo priestess who is also an accountant that they consult. Probably requires rearranging a couple on contracts, killing a couple of chickens and Drew Brees gets another mole somewhere.

Yeah, you broke it down perfectly, i was just saying, from remembering the original terms when he signed with them, I just thought his number would've been too much for them to absorb.

They are in trouble. $100M over and even designating Jordan and Brees as post 6/1 along with releasing Jenkins and Kwon, that’s only $49M in savings. Still another $50M to go.

Also keep in mind

Sheldon Rankins is hitting FA

And Ryan Ramczyk+Marshon Lattimore are going into their 5th year option where guys normally work on or threaten to hold out unless they get extended

I have a feeling Ramczyk will be one of the odd men out of NO soon, his play has slipped a bit recently (though he's still been great) and they've done a pretty good job of developing OL and may view him as replaceable. If he were to hit FA at some point, I'd love to target him. Was a huge fan of him going into the draft that year, and he's been an absolute mauler in both the run and pass games. He's been the RT in NO, but I think he could play the left side and be a long term solution there for us. Though it's possible they do keep him or if not, they trade him so NFCS rivals can't sign him...

Ramczyk won't be the odd man out compared to Lattimore

Playing with the calculator on OTC, before this move even hits...

  • Brees as a June 1st cut (retire)
  • Cut Michael Thomas (June 1st - only way to save them money really, but it'll be a trade)
  • Terron Armstead (Cut)
  • Taysom Hill (Cut)
  • Janoris Jenkins (Cut)
  • Ramcyzk (Trade)
  • Lattimore (Trade)
  • Emmanuel Sanders (Cut)

And none of their pending FAs signed...they're still 14 million over the cap. BEFORE this Kwon contract hits.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
