The plan?

Nobody spent $40m just for a coach. They knew he was a consummate pro...he does things the right way. They knew he was familiar with the offense. They thought he would make a good bridge to the next guy. In the meantime, ask any NFL player who they learned to be a pro football player from and it's almost never a coach, it's a fellow player, one that typically plays that same player's position. If it helps, substitute "mentor" for "coach." But it has as much to do with life and being a good teammate than x's and o's.

you can find a mentor for less than 40m

Here again what will help the rookie more?  Teddy's mentorship or mentorship from a $3m a year vet and $37m to spend on an O-line.  I'm sure you ask any NFL qb and they will say a better line.

And once again, there was some consideration that Teddy may be more than a bridge. He's not. But there wasn't a way to determine that without giving him a shot. In the meantime, what $3m pro would you have signed to mentor the next guy?

Andy Dalton. Name one thing TB has over him. Dalton has played at a much higher level. Has a ton more experience. And doesn’t cost 23M(plus 5M to cut him after)next year to be a “mentor”.

How many times do I have to repeat this? They weren't looking for "just a mentor." They were looking for someone who may be a franchise QB. They gave TB a shot, he hasn't shown he's that guy. Was it a mistake? Looks that way, but hey, brand new coaching staff in their first year plus Covid. Geez, some of you people would've fired Belichick after his first season with NE.

I feel like Rhule let Brady make this choice 100% and because Brady was such a hot talent out of college (and maybe came here because we said you can pick the QB) he really just rolled with it.    He's probably now stuck with some bad decisions as it didn't work out with Teddy and Brady isn't looking like a genius all the time (not that he's bad etc).    Probably some buyer's remorse all around.     My only hope is, they don't stay on the sinking ship of decisions and realize we have to draft a QB and we have to let him play.

This 100%. Are coaches gonna make mistakes? Yep. Key is, will they learn from them?

You asked for an example of an alternative while trying to justify a move that will set the franchise back another year(at least). I gave you one.

Panthers have an easy out with Teddy in 2022. He will only cost 5 million against the cap to release.

Is the plan to draft a QB and use Teddy's second year to let the rookie sit and learn? Teppers is a long term guy and that is definitely a long term plan.

I don’t see why they would get rid of him if we do draft a qb, we will need an experienced QB and Grier and Walker in my opinion isn’t the answer. We him as a back up or starter his rookie year.

    • yeah, but the actual jersey Bryce Young is wearing is not the same jersey you are buying from Fanatics.
    • i just feel like i read this he says she says poo all the time over & over again  on the internet  TV  work ,in public & then i think back to myself oh what a sick slandermongering world we live in now. ts just like those National Enquirer magazines you find in the grocery store at the checkout counter which are nothing more than complete & utter BS  & more often than not when you assume something then you make an ASS out of U & ME. so chill &  let the courts do their job & if he is guilty well he is guilty  LOL either or this has nothing at all whatsoever to do with Carolina Panthers football
    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
