Where is Kyle Trask ranked in this year's draft? He's looked good tonight.

The general consensus as of now without workouts is:

Lawrence

Fields

Lance

Wilson

Trask

I think people wanting Wilson at #4 are bat poo crazy.

Do you see any of those guys lasting until Carolina's pick in the 2nd round?

I agree with Varking....it's a knee jerk reaction in the moment. I think if Wilson had the day that Fields did, people would react the same.

In this shortened year with such weird competition and so few games to analyze vs. previous years, I'm taking everything with a grain of salt. I think Wilson is good and would understand if we drafted him, but I do think his flaws can be equally gameplanned for by NFL defenses as Fields'.

*Full Disclosure: I've been a Fields stan since he signed at UGA and thought he was a pipe dream for Carolina.

Difference is, people fell for Jordan Love even when he played like dog crap, Wilson has played phenomenally this year.

He played ehhhh in their only big game this year. Let’s face it: people are falling in love with a majorly unknown prospect who hasn’t played much in the way of competition.

Don't know that I agree with that, but it's worth pointing out that the team around Wilson is nowhere near as good as the team around Fields.

Distinguishing between "great quarterback" and "quarterback on a great team" isn't always easy.

OSU also had less practices than most other teams due to covid and how many schools are starting 3 new lineman due to covid, don’t have their starting running back, starting tight end and their #1 and 4 WR? They were rolling with a freshman and two sophomores in that game. People are just too reactionary.

Jones is QB on a great team. Wilson is an unknown. He can run and he can throw hard and all of a sudden there’s comparisons to Pat Mahomes...It’s too reactionary.

Thing is though, while they might be annoying, all of those scenarios are often true.

It's pretty rare to find a draft prospect without questions. Lawrence is generally considered by most, but those are rare.

Drafting ain't easy, but it's necessary.

Well,  Lawrence isnt a sure thing either.  Clemson by far has had the best offensive talent probably in the country while they're playing Duke, and Wake Forest on Saturdays.  Yet he doesnt get knocked for it like people have been knocking Mac Jones even though Jones plays in an incredibly tough division.

Lawrence looked remarkably human against LSU last year...which was by far really their only tough game.  Obviously he is a good player but he isnt a lock and the way he plays will translate to injury in the NFL.

There really isnt a rhyme or reason when it comes to which school a qb plays at. Thats why NC state can produce Rivers and Russ, but also produce Trubisky, and Glennon.  Ole Miss can produce Eli Manning and also Jevan Snead.  Tennessee can produce Peyton Manning and Tee Martin. USC can produce Sanchez and Carson Palmer.

OU has a great offensive system...dominant school....they can produce a Kyler Murray but also a Bradford and Landry Jones. LSU you can get Joe Burrow or Jemarcus Russell. Georgia can give you Matt Stafford or Quincy Carter.

Drew Brees came from Purdue, but no other recognizable qb has come out of there.

Yes Steve Young went to BYU does this mean Zach Wilson is Steve Young? Hell no.

Anyway you get my point....using the school a qb plays for as the primary metric by which to judge how they do at the next level is a house built on shifting sands. Even if they're successful in college.

It’s really hard to say because teams will reach. The top 3 will be gone first half of the first. I think Trask will last pretty close to our second pick and Wilson SHOULD get close or bottom of the first as well. But they very well could go in the second half of the first round with teams reaching.

The Panthers will have their pick of the bottom 3 with their top pick. If they are in love with one, take them imo. But I wouldn’t reach for any of them.

The thing to me about this, its not just a couple of random guys making the comparison its a lot of the well known evaluators.

Those same well known evaluators also made Jemarcus Russell the number 1 pick, didnt put a first round grade on Russell Wilson, and also drated Bridgewater in the first round.  Let's rethink this comment shall we.

I'm not the world's biggest Trevor Lawrence fan (yeah I know, I'm crazy).

I don't look so much at schools as I do systems. Cal used to have a rep for producing quarterbacks that looked great in college but lousy in the pros. It wasn't the school so much as it was Jeff Tedford.

For starters it's not the same thing.  Secondly you could argue all 3.

Also I am talking about the comparison of Wilson's arm and ability to make similar throws.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
