Dodds is out

My guess is the latter.  If he didn't think he could win here, he wouldn't have waited several days to pull out.  

My one concern with Dodds was that he struck me as somebody that could conceivably be difficult to work with. He's a guy who's extremely driven, and Matt Rhule strikes me as a little more laid back.

Hiring Dodds as a GM would have been kind of like hiring Steve Smith as a coach. You'd absolutely respect his drive, but someone that intense can wear on you after a while.

But yeah, it's possible that he just didn't get a positive impression of us. Could be Matt Rhule, could be David Tepper, could be the way things are set up, who knows?

There’s a lot of reasons for it not to be the right fit, and that’s totally fine and expected. I find it a bit odd for him to come out and say he has withdrawn from consideration though.

These guys are all alpha males. They want to think they’re desired everywhere. Even if you don’t actually want the job, you could just wait and see if you get an offer so you can parlay that into a raise or better position at your current job.

So I have to assume it was a bad interview, for whatever reason. He knew wasn’t getting the job, so he “withdrew from consideration” to save face and be like “I didn’t even want the job, I’m happy where I am” instead of like I said earlier, being embarrassed by not being able to land a job previously held by a radio DJ.

He did the same thing last year with Cleveland

I don't know that there's a rule against it, but the NFL doesn't like it because it distracts from the playoff games and the teams who employ the candidates don't like it because they want everyone's focus solely on the game.

I guess you could say it's courtesy.

So does that mean its likely our guy is still in the playoffs?

Curious about what you're saying here?

What do you suspect it was he "didn't like" about the organization?

Do you think he takes offense to the Appaloosa Model and the attendant job functions and responsibilities within it?

The concern I've had with Dodds from the beginning is whether or not that's a model he is ok with?  From everything I have seen and heard, he strikes me as someone who wants to be the man in charge on personnel decisions...no questions asked.  Not in an obnoxious way, but he just wants a clear separation of duties.   I get the feeling that he'll work and listen to the coach, but ultimately, he wants the decisions to be his.

If so, I can see him pulling out when he realized that it is more of an equal partnership with Rhule.

Dodds isn't a fit within the Appaloosa Model --- complete non-starter.
