OMFG, Rivera may be getting "it" after all this time!

Maybe it took him being canned in Carolina, or the buck basically stopping with him in our nation's capital, but Ron Rivera seems to be admitting the fault that some of us complained about for years! I have said many times that Rivera's definition of competition was essentially a rhetorical exercise born of old school status quo notions of not rocking the boat and detrimentally catering to aging vets! Well, he may be realizing some of the errors of his ways!

It's fair to wonder if Washington might have fared better had Rivera given his other quarterbacks a better shot in training camp. Rivera wishes he'd done so.

"Yeah, I would have. I would have. The biggest thing I would have done is I would have created a few more opportunities mixing everybody around," Rivera said during an appearance on 106.7 The Fan. "As opposed to saying okay I'm going to stick with just the one guy and do that. I think now in retrospect, and again, hindsight in 2020, I would.

"What I'm saying is I made a mistake and I'm owning up to it and that's the truth. To put it as simple as that, that's what I'm saying. I'm just being honest."

He says that if he has an opportunity to do things differently in the future, he's going to do things differently! As the man in control, he will get that opportunity! Too bad that he didn't have this epiphany while he was here a few years back! But the past is the past. All we can do is learn from experiences in our own time.

We do actually have a thread about this, FWIW.

    • The blue line is a mess not collectively, but having to shuffle pieces just to get 3 D lines on the ice while playing three perennial contenders in 3 consecutive games without a break, there's not a lot of room for error.  Last night, there was literally not a single defensive pairing that had ever skated together before, either in the preseason or so far this season.
    • Yeah, I am just looking at our pass blocking stats and the Texans stats being similar, but our oline is way better than theirs IMO. I feel like there are at least 5 times a game 3+ guys come free on a pass rush for opposing teams vs. the Texans. I can't recall too many times I have seen multiple lineman get beat/blow their blocking assignment on the same play this season for us.
    • I agree Someone like CJ who throws one of the nicest balls and throws with anticipation and everything you want just protect him. He has Nico. All other resources should’ve gone into the OL Now with that said I don’t think Young’s numbers would be very far off from Stroud’s had he gone to Houston  I mean since the whole CJ giving Caleb that post game speech their numbers are pretty similar if I’m recalling correctly
