no. Dan Morgan and Luke were who I was referring to as our investments. also, we are talking about the draft at number 8. has nothing to do with signing big contracts.

Beason was a 1st rounder too who also got signed to a huge 2nd contract. Yes, when talking overall investments those 2nd contracts absolutely matter. You're not drafting 1st rounders with the intent of letting them walk after 4-5 years. You're drafting for a decade.

i think he had to go defense his first draft because the defense was just so damn bad. its not a STUD o-line class, but its viewed to be deep. especially at G. we could easily end up going all offense this draft if the chips fall.

Rhule wanted to gut the roster to rebuild it, but he knew if he gutted the already bad defense we'd go 0-16. So he poured defensive picks into the defense and he got the couple of wins everyone was expecting.

but the discussion is based on the draft. nobody is drafting saying okay in 5 years he will want X contract so we have to structure our draft pick based on X salary we will have to pay in 5 years. it sounds cute but it doesn't happen.

The Saints and Bucs are the class of the NFCS, and we're not going to out compete them by collect top LBs.

If Rule isn't thinking "QB, weapons, o-line" then we're in deep trouble. If he starts spending picks on the defense yet again then we're going to get yeeted. If our identity is our defense then we know we're ever winning a SB. Not happening.

That’s what I have been saying! We were in 8 games that we lost. We settled for FGs way too much. If we can get the ball in the end zone just one more time per game, we win close to 6 more games IMO. We have a problem scoring TDs. We have to fix that or we are toast. You are not holding our opponents to 17 every week. Not gonna happen in this NFL.

This is what I was talking about. Most fans can't grasp the concept of opportunity costs. Nothing happens in a vacuum. It isn't just about the draft. It's about the big picture. Don't feel bad though, Marty Hurney was a long-term NFL GM and he couldn't grasp it either.

We can beat up on bad teams with good defense, but who cares? Beating bad teams just helps those bad teams draft ahead of us. It helps them! Our team is TRASH! Draft the o-line, QB, and weapons now. Yes more weapons. More. Our TEs are poop.

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
