Carolina Panthers to be 'aggressive' in pursuit of potential Deshaun Watson trade

Gantt, via Nick Carboni...

"Everybody's lathered up about Deshaun Watson right now," said Gantt. "As they should be. Being able to get that done is another thing."

With several big-name quarterbacks like Watson and Matthew Stafford potentially hitting the market, and with the No. 8 overall pick in the draft, Carolina has many avenues to explore at the position, which still includes sticking with Bridgewater.

"I think they've been careful to not just absoutely say it's not Teddy," said Gantt. "Because I think they understand it could be Teddy again. Then you go about figuring out how do you fix things around him."

Cool. Still don't think we can offer what the Jets or Dolphins can, though.

I think that a lot of fans don’t necessarily WANT to offer what will beat out those teams bc it’s risky. But neither of those teams imo have two players as valuable as Burns and CMC.

Burns is an elite rusher on a cheap deal.

CMC is a potential MVP of the league...

If the Panthers want Watson they’ll get him. They just also may have to include one of those two players.

BUT...this is where Fitterer comes in. If he’s really as gifted at finding mid round talent as everyone says he should be able to replace a RB or DE. He’s not going to find a “Watson” in those rounds tho.

I don’t understand why so many people are saying this.  Deshaun Watson is a Top-3 quarterback not even in his prime.  DJ Moore is easily replaceable in the draft (even mid—round)...and is about to demand elite WR money.  Burns is our most valuable asset, but to get an elite quarterback he is more than expendable.

Hell, I’d trade both of them and next year’s first if they’d agree to take Teddy’s contract back.  But I don’t think they’d do it without this year’s #8.

For this particular player in this particular instance, I’m fine with selling the farm and trusting that our coaches can hit in the later rounds and free agency.

Yep, worst case scenario it doesn't work out and we suck....but we always suck so what do we have to lose?

The Texans had more talent than we did last season Watson won four games..... Subtract a CMC, Moore and Burns along with our next two or three first rounders.... Couple that with his 35m per cap hit and the fact Paradis is the only oline starter we currently have under contract.... We may reach nine wins by 2025.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Panthers plan to make a "strong push" for Deshaun Watson.

Rapsheet reports Carolina will be "aggressive" in pursuit of the elite quarterback. As we know, any team with even a passing need at quarterback should be checking into Watson's availability, but the Panthers are a particularly good fit. They have both an acute need under center and the No. 8 overall pick in the draft. The Texans will surely like the fact that they also reside in the opposite conference, limiting the amount of times Watson will be able to embarrass them in the years to come. Sporting an aggressive front office, the Panthers should be taken seriously if the Texans give into Watson's demand to be dealt

Yeah, I don't really think it's that simple.

Gantt doesn't either.

Haters maybe but he was the polar opposite of TB before he mismanaged his diabetes... A Favre type cannon armed gunslinger.

He did have a cannon. I feel about the same about both, not a fan, but not a hater either. Jay had waaay talent tho.

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.  I only hoped because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’ll be damned.    This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair.     https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t “take” or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical “Player __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cooked” situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is.
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
