Washington bringing in Polian

Not Bill, his son.

Interesting in that Washington now not only has the Panthers former GM but also the son of their original GM.

Heck, they even got a guy who was a candidate to replace Hurney at one point. All they're missing is Jerry Richardson having an ownership stake.

Also this note from JP Finlay on Mayhew...

If everything you know about Chris Polian is that he's Bill's son, you're on par with most people.

Chris took over for his dad as Colts GM in 2009. Didn't go so well. He was fired two years later and there were several reports that he created a toxic culture.

Why did they hire Hurney again?  It seems like they are undercutting him with every front office hire.  Seemingly a cushy job as more people are brought on board and have his duties delegated away.  Ron's personal emotional support coordinator?

What I find funny is that Marty and the Polians are at very opposite ends of the emotional spectrum.

Marty is generally considered to be a nice guy (some might say "pushover") who tends to remain cool and doesn't make enemies. On the flipside, once during a particularly contentious negotiation, Bill Polian picked up a chair and threw it at an agent.

Pretty sure there was also a story that Chris threw a punch at someone in the Colts stadium, a reporter if memory serves. That might also have been Bill but I think it was Chris or at the very least Chris was involved.

Jerry Richardson reportedly used to write the word "CALM" in big letters on a piece of paper and flash it at Polian during meetings and negotiations at times when it looked like he was starting to lose it. The contrast in styles between Richardson's southern cool and Polian's Northeast attitude was said to be one of the reasons why they parted ways. Then Richardson hired Dave Gettleman (and ultimately parted ways with him too).

Rivera, Hurney, and Polian Jr. all working for Dan Snyder.

Get the popcorn out boys, this will be fun to watch.

Not to worry. They also have a GM in the middle of everything who can help sort it all out.

(specifically, the GM who built the Lions team that went 0-16) 😕

That organization and it's style of football is really going to take the 90's by storm.

I normally try to accept all possibilities, but if that team is anything but a grade A sh-t show I'm seriously gonna wonder how.

I suppose they could consult with the Dark Prince but I think he's busy trying to help Belichick with his rebuild right now.

    • I'll be patiently waiting to see what OL additions we snatch off the waiver wire.
    • Look don't get me wrong here. I'm not arguing it's going to just change his arm talent overnight. I'm just saying doing anything on the physical front after the GM who stuck his neck out for him over the concerns around his physical traits got fired is better than doing nothing. That's another layer. It could easily be argued overall he needed to add at least 10 pounds not just for the sake of working in the pocket and not going down so easily but let's be honest eventually no matter how much we invest in the OL he's going to get hit some and those hits will add up. His frame as it stands is only going to absorb so much over a 17 game season. Oh definitely good or bad we will have to run a lot of under center stuff. Bryce will either look good or flounder. But our offense will remain stagnant if we just keep running shotgun plays 90% of the time. You're telegraphing your offense otherwise. That's why I'm not giving Chuba Hubbard too hard of a time over his YPC last year. We weren't fooling anyone. We'll see what Canales has cooked up. It better be pretty damn clever.
    • Why would a team ever not be aggressive in improving the roster? It may look different from year to year but even the best rosters churn at the bottom. That's a no-brainer.
