By "defensive starter" what are we talking here? Shaq and Donte would certainly fit that bill I would think, but my guess (fear) is Houston is thinking more along the lines of Chinn, Brown, Burns, etc.

Your guess is as good as mine.

That'd be a brain dead trade. You essentially lose 4 first rounders, and all the associated rookie contracts that go with 3 of them. You have no LT, and no way to draft a good one for 4 years with an offensive line that is entirely out of contract after next season.

Watson is great. Being perennial losers for the next 3 seasons so we can "have a QB," is super dumb.

Giving up at least two firsts and more to move to 2 or 3 for the next best qb is smart?

I think that's stupid too.

If you're a contender it makes sense. If you're like us where you're looking for about 6 guys on defense, and 2-3 on offense + a QB it's dumb.

Play the long game.

It dumps CMC’s contract to make room to sign a FA LT (like Trent Williams) also extend Moton (suddenly our line might be solid with Paradis returning). CMC is one of our best players, but his contract number is pretty large. Also RBs don’t have the best lifespan in the league (not saying he won’t, just thinking from both sides). If we could get them to take Teddy and his contract also it would make this tempting. Say 3 firsts, CMC, Teddy, and Shaq.  That’s huge money coming off our books and yes I know Watson will carry a large amount as well. Watson throwing to Anderson and Moore would be very fun to watch and comes with huge marketability!

    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
    • Cos he looks much better?
