Voth on the QB situation...

I really feel it's probably the best option. Next year we will have a bigger cap and much more room. Bridgewater isn't a QB that's going to win you many games but right now we are not a team that really can afford to give up draft picks and stop progressing.

"In on every deal" does not literally mean we will try to trade for every single player who comes available.  It simply means that we will not be shy making trades for positions of need that can upgrade our team.  Like, we're not going to try and trade for another QB if/when we land our new QB of the future.  We're probably not in the market for any WR's that come available via trade right now.  Use your heads, people.

Nobody said what you suggested.  How easy it must be to win arguments when you start with a fallacious and false interpretation of what someone said only for the purpose of making yourself seem smart.  Nice try.

Well, you seemed to be having trouble with what the phrase "in on every deal" actually means - so I thought I would clear it up for you.

You're welcome.

Some people are so ungrateful....

I could live with giving up Donte but both Rhule and Fitterer have talked him up as part of the future.

I'd say they think more of him than I do. And of course it's their call.

I'm not so sure I would take what they say publicly about a player as a clear indication of what they truly think about that player.  Especially it meaning anything towards their future with the team.  It could be something as simple as talking up a player to increase his value potential to another team.  It is lying season in the NFL you know.

I'd agree about Matt Rhule. I don't know that we have a read on Scott Fitterer yet.

I'm curious as to what the armchair GM's here who are against trading for Watson think is going to happen if we continue to play it conservatively and just stock pile draft picks. How long do we wait before addressing QB?

Mac Jones at #8? Hope we're bad enough to get the #1 pick next year? Draft someone else in the 2nd or 3rd round or later and hope we get the next Russell Wilson or Tom Brady instead of the usual backup or washout teams get with QBs after the 1st round? Ride with Teddy until he's ready to retire?

The Rams haven't had a 1st round pick since 2016 and won't have one again until at least 2024, and yet since 2017 they're 43-21 with a Super Bowl appearance and will go into next season as a legitimate contender to get back there.

Despite what conventional wisdom may say, there are more ways than one to build a winner. To be so disliked by so many on this board, it seems Jerry Richardson's philosophy of team building remains in vogue with many people here. How many 1st rounders did Marty Hurney hit on? Pretty much ALL of them, and yet what did we really win during his tenure(s) as GM? One NFC title + 2 division titles in 15 years between his 2 stints as GM.

The Rams have done exactly the same since 2017 and they've done it without a single 1st round pick during that time.

Look, I'm as big a fan of CMC, D.J. Moore, Brian Burns, and Derrick Brown as anyone. We've had a great run of 1st round picks, but the truth is the value of a true elite franchise QB eclipses all four of those guys combined. That's not to say I'm advocating trading all of them as part of a Watson deal (you want to keep enough talent around him that you're not in a total rebuild on offense) but what I am saying is we could draft 3 players of comparable talent with our next 3 1st rounders and unless one of them is a top-tier franchise QB (let's be honest, QBs are always a crapshoot) then we'd still be worse off come 2023 than we would be with Deshaun Watson under center.

And that assumes we hit on our next 3 picks in the 1st round. Sure, they could all be CMC or Brian Burns, but they could also be Shaq Thompson and Vernon Butler. There's just no way of knowing what we'd be getting, but there is a way to land a franchise QB: trade for Deshaun Watson.

I'm sure we won't be the only team interested, but we MUST try and every signal the organization has sent this offseason indicates that we absolutely WILL try.

Draft is where my focus would be for improving the QB spot. I believe theres never been 4 QBs drafted before pick 8(i think it happens this yr/anyway...). Im just not dumb, pathetic, and desperate enough to move massive resources for a team that needs massive resources due to lack of talent. I dont want to move form 8 either, but if the price is right, say a 4th&future 3rd to move up a couple spots...maybe. Houston with similar talent went 4-12 with Watson and his 2 ACLs tears. I feel like most overlook these facts.

Going back to the "not dumb, pathetic, and desperate enough" part. This past draft had great examples of this. Bills traded a bunch of picks for Diggs and gave him more money. Viking took Justin Jefferson, whom looked like a young Jerry Rice while getting a rookie scale contract and control. Bills are happy with Diggs, but if they just didnt panic trade, could have had a stud rookie WR. The same thing happened with Indy and 49ers, Indy traded for Forester and made him the 2nd highest paid DT. 49ers took Kinlaw and he had a Brown like year. Panic lead to these moves. All teams are happy, but 100/100 Id take the rookie in each deal.

Other QBs out other than Watson, for far cheaper cost. Minshew is worth a late rounder, Mitch is worth a cheap deal,  winston is out there too. Just bad timing given the current team to trade loads of resources for Watson/3rd overall. Ask me again in 2022 and depending on the team, I may change my mind. Panthers waaaaaay over performed this past year, dont drink the juice. Team still needs QB, WHOLE OL, LBs, CBs, TEs and depth at EVERY group.

    • Another layer to that is Ive seen Seattle has been in the market for CB help this off-season.   Michael had a higher PFF grade than Horn who got 15 games this season. He wants to be here too, that's a huge bonus for any 5 win team that had awful pass rush.  The 7th rounder Michael Barrett didn't last long on Seattle, he was cut before the season I think and ended up on browns PS. He's already been on 5.......5 teams within one year.......
    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
