Chris Simms “no way the panthers draft Lance at 8”

I'm guessing that Simms looks at a top 10 selection as "Start now" which makes sense on the take that Lance is a 2nd rounder. Mac Jones, despite his lack of mobility, is apparently as pro ready as a QB can be.

I'm starting to really, really like the idea of Rashawn Slater at #8. Let him play LG his rookie season and then kick him outside to LT in his second season like the team did with Gross.

The odds 1 QB in a given draft, regardless of what round taken, will become a great NFL starter, is not high ..

The odds 2 QB's in a given draft will become a great NFL starter, lower ..

The odds, 3, 4, QB's ... even lower

Its Lawrence, Wilson, then a bunch of trash .. those two QB's are all that will be legit QB's

Wilson had one good year against a poor division. How do you know he isn’t fools gold?

They run a pro style drop back passing game? Their one game this year was 30 passes. Of which he completed just 15. It was awful. They ran the ball 45 times.

The year before? Basically 300 throws to 600 rushes.

They past two years they’ve run the ball twice as much as they’ve thrown it.

I dont want Mac Jones but I don’t really want Trey Lance either based on what I’ve seen of his play from two years ago.

If a defensive can not stop the run, like at all. Would you prefer Lance to start throwing or continue running the rock?

At least a year sitting is a year learning. Or would you rather just waste a year of everyone else in hope you can draft 1 next year? And 5 year rookie contracts for QBs are massive.

If the guy is sitting a year to learn, he is wasting a year of that valuable five year rookie contract since he isn't out there playing. The only way I would trade up in the draft is if I'm 100% sold on the guy being a day one starter. Otherwise, I trade back or take whoever is available where I'm at, especially in a draft like this that is supposed to be deep for the Oline.

If I’m evaluating a QB I prefer to watch them throw. Run run run pass run pass run run pass isn’t pro style.

The bonus money is a sunk cost. It's getting paid no matter what. The salary is the "good" money after the bonus "bad".

What bonus are you talking about?  He is guaranteed a 2nd year regardless of what happens.  Nobody is trading for him so he is going to be on the roster come hell or high water.  Signing him was stupid and I suspect that is what got hurndog fired.  Teddy can bitch and bitch if he wants to (which I suspect he will not) but the panthers just padded his bank account with 40 million so I think he is going to do whatever we ask.

Smith won the Heisman for a reason. Most thought a WR would never even be considered again until Smith did what he did. He had 12 catches for 215 yards and 3 TDs against OSU at halftime and he was WIDE open on most of them.

Scary part is that Waddle was the better of the two, when they both played, and neither of them might be the first WR drafted.
Good year to need a WR if you are drafting early.
