I’m saying most of Mac’s competition was significantly below his team and he started the same amount of games. So yeah the guys he is going against are better, but his teammates are significantly better than them.

Mac Jones had twice as many throws.

That's the major, major problem with Lance. He's coming from a run first college offence, having played in a run first high school offence.

Fair play to the scout who bets their career on him turning into an All Pro. He's a savant if it happens. I wouldn't want to make that call, there's just not enough data on the guy.

I mean Alabama was way better that other teams this year. They are loaded with NFL talent. Mac Jones had a NFL line, RB, and WRs mostly 1st rounders going against a lot of players that won’t get drafted. The gap from Alabama to the average team they played could be greater than NDSU and their competition. Also Lance started the same number of games as Jones. So experience should be similar...

It's actually very similar. They're the Alabama of their level.

Watch the games - people are criticising Jones for hitting wide open receivers. There's completions on Lance's tape where no-one is within 10 yards of the TE.

Everyone is just projecting with Lance because he's more 'athletic'.

That’s fair, but if Jones had Lance’s arm and athletic ability he would be the top pick. They are both risky due to only starting a season’s worth of games and having superior talent on their teams. To me the potential of Lance is crazy, but the floor for Jones is much higher. Mac’s worst case is Teddy, best is Brees (super low chance of this). Tre Lance’s worst case is out of the league in a few years, best case is maybe off the charts? Maybe what Josh Allen is becoming or peak Cam with better passing? (again low chance of this).

Lance’s advantage is his ability let’s you open your playbook and win with less than Jones can (potentially).

Yes, I don't get where people come up with the idea that the 1st 4 picks will be QBs. Unless they believe the Jets, Dolphins and Falcons are drafting QBs or that the Bengals, Eagles or Lions are moving up to draft a QB. People also throw around trading down to QB desperate teams but I don't think they understand the cost of such moves.

Let's just take it from the start and say the Dolphins are the first team that wants to trade down and Carolina is the first QB desperate team. To make this deal happen we have to consider the Trade Value. Pick 3 has a TV of 2,200 points. Pick 8 has a TV of 1,400 points. Carolina needs to add 800 tv points to even be considered. (usually teams want more. The Bills had to go about 400 points over to get Allen)

So the Panthers would have to give up at least this to move from 8 to 3. pick 8=1,400, pick 39=510, pick 73=225. So our first 3 picks in '21 only comes to 2,135 tv points. We are still a little short. They might accept that but we'd probably have to include a '22 2nd as well as a minimum offer. That's a lot for an unknown. One thing if it's Watson, you know what you're getting. A rookie coming out of College is another story.

Every pick after ours loses 50 tv points so those moves get more and more expensive for those teams.

The biggest threat to us would be the Broncos at 9 and 49ers at 12. But I doubt they would want to trade up to 3. They would likely try to go for 6 or 7 if they wanted a qb. NE is the next closest team. To trade up to 7 to draft a qb before Carolina, NE would have to have 450 tv points, that would be their first and second in '21 and probably at minimal '22 second and likely another pick as well in '22 or '23.

So, the only teams that could afford to move up to 3 for a QB are us, Denver and SF. They already have youngish QBs who are average at least. That's a big move for them. The most likely move would be up to 6 or 7. They could do that and that would likely be the biggest threat to us. NE could also make that move but they would have to really want him and they need a lot of other things there but we have to watch them too. The others would have to trade away the this draft and half the next to make that move and isn't very likely to happen.

And I think the price could go up significantly because the market is so bullish. Now, one thing you aren't considering is that a chunk of those teams(us included, admittedly) can move players in lieu of picks for the total package. In San Francisco's case, that actually makes more sense. For a team like New Orleans(as an example) that makes a TON of sense, because they need to jettison salary.

The scenarios are absolutely crazy. I am pumped, honestly. It is gonna be a wild ride.

I agree with the posts, but would just like to say that the TV chart isn't the gospel, and of course that means in theory--and reality--the cost could be a little better or worse depending upon what transpires. I don't believe that this can be overstated. Moreover, I think that some of this "bullish" market is being media-driven. I believe that once the crap starts hitting the fan, so to speak, that most of these teams that we're hearing about  aren't necessarily going to do what it takes to trade up! Elway is a wildcard, but how many times can he keep on missing before he gets canned? Does Frisco really want to base their immediate future on a rookie QB while that window for a championship is still open? They'd probably shut it somewhat by trading up, and then all bets are off. The Pats have good money, or so I understand, so they could make an uncharacteristicly bold move and turn their attention to filling out their team with free agents for a couple of years, but I don't think it's Belichick's way to give up so much for an unknown. I think we are legitimately in the midst of a rebuild with an owner that's intent on getting his guy. I don't know if even these admittedly big boys of the sport will want to tussle with a determined Tepper in this situation. We'll see. His reported determination may be all bluster, but I doubt it. [Have you ever seen Trey Moe and Keisha Jones on YouTube?] Tepper gonna make a way! Tepper gonna make a way! (See vid at 2:05 for the voice)

Yes I agree with both of you, Any team may just yeah you can move up for next years first. It's possible. Especially a team like Miami that has draft picks like candy. But at some point they have more than they need and might prefer using them to trade up for certain players instead of down and accumulating more candy. Also, I agree on the bullish market maybe not being as bullish as it seems. I just find it hard to believe that teams like ATL or DET are really going to draft a QB now. I also don't see SF wanting a rookie now either nor Denver. They have too much invested with what they have. I'm 50/50 on even the Jets tbh. If I'm the Jets I'm thinking about looking at picks 4-7 for a team that wants Sewell badly, getting an extra pick or 2 and then maybe trading down again if possible to a team like Carolina for their QB or a team a little higher that wants a CB or LB or TE superstar. I could probably still get the 2nd OT, WR or CB plus I have some nice new picks as well. The movement already seen this off season is showing that teams are thinking outside the traditional box and I expect to see this trend continue up to and into the draft. For the record, I openly admit to being a "Homer", but I honestly believe Watson will be traded and that it will be to us as I don't think the Fins or Jets are really interested and that leaves the Bears and we not only can beat them but I think they have their sites more on Wilson even if it's next year.

There are a lot of factors involved. The Watson situation, the price the top 4 teams that aren't taking QB's want and the desperation level of the pool of QB needy teams. Plus, maybe some of those teams don't have Wilson, Fields or Lance as top 10 caliber.

I also wanted to give a shout out for the Last Dragon image. Sho Nuff!!

He had very few misses and none of them were bad misses...either off the WRs fingertips or just barley out of reach.  He looked very solid.  While he's 'moving up the ladder' for some of you, Trey simply reinforced what I have thought of the the kid for over a year now.

So welcome to the Trey Lance wagon!

It's an underwear workout with no defense, I am not making assumptions based on a pro day, it's concerning that he wouldn't run a 40 given his playing style... he's much slower than people think.

What did he run? Add about a tenth of a second as they aren't electronically timed at pro days.

He ran 21 mph in a run against James Madison. I think it was the NC game but I could be wrong. Which was apparently faster than any qb runs that year in the nfl.  He plays faster than he runs 40 times. I can see it. Some players just have that speed like Josh Norman in his prime. He played faster than his 40 time.

im honestly not concerned about his running element. I wanna see him evade tackles in the pocket, throw on the run. He has that mobility to do that and that’s the biggest thing for me at the next level.

He seems to be a guy that has a chip on his shoulder, really invests a lot of work in his craft and also his a fantastic teammate. His intangibles seem to be very good.

I think he is a guy that you can expect to continue to put in the work and get better and better.

He's my kind of guy.

Please don’t try and put words in my mouth. I don’t think he is dumb. On the athletes part he plays on a team that has more success over the last few years in its conference than Alabama has. His school fields the best athletes for D2.

It's D1 bruh.
