He was, but he's also played guard.

He's too small to play G. That's probably why he's been poor the last few years.

Plug the guy in at C and watch him work. Whilst I think you can swing players between T and G (although I wouldn't encourage it), it's very rare that you can swing a C to G (or vice versa). It's a very specialised position.

I mean they took 'that centre from NCSU' in the first round.

At that point you have to move Elflein off his position.

I think you missed my point.   If Elfien was all that, why would they draft his replacement?  Doubtful it was a BPA scenario.  Centers RARELY are atop the board in the first round--mid round or not.

Yea this seems like a rotation guy who can play all three interior spots.

Called this.  My take was he looked decent in Minnesota then fell into the pit of despair that is the Jets.  Interior Jack of all trades with extensive center experience.  Depth on the oline is very crucial. He provides depth at three positions.

G PAT ELFLEIN: THREE YEARS, $13.5 MILLION ($6 MILLION GUARANTEED)

Grade: Poor

Things started out well enough for Elflein as a rookie with the Minnesota Vikings back in 2017, but it’s been downhill since then. The former Ohio State Buckeye has been a revolving door in pass protection, failing to clear a 50.0 pass-blocking grade in any of the past three seasons. He is one of just three guards in the league allowing a pressure rate above 8.0% on at least 500 pass-blocking snaps since 2018. It’s difficult to project a major turnaround in 2021.

The Vikings were comfortable waiving Elflein during the 2020 season despite their guards combining for the worst pass-blocking grade in the NFL — a dreadful 37.2 mark across the roster. Carolina apparently values his ability to play multiple positions on the interior, but it’s fair to wonder if Minnesota kept moving him around just to see if he could play anywhere, not because he was solid at several spots.

Carolina is probably still working on a long-term deal for right tackle Taylor Moton and is set to lose left tackle Russell Okung to free agency, making this deal even more of a head-scratcher.

That depends on the system. WCO based systems like ours frequently have smaller, more athletic linemen.

I'd also point out that though he's an inch taller, Joe Thuney is actually listed as eight pounds lighter than Elflein.

No the fug they didn't? Go back and read Reddit and their forums, a lot of them knew he was going to do great in Carolina.

We can just make poo up for +internet points I guess.

I don't think they're backups.

For one, you have to consider that with what happened to the cap and everything, this year is unusual.

But perhaps more important, from the looks of it they seem to be making more money than the guys we paid to be starters last year.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
