If we don't trade Teddy for reasonable draft pick(s) before the season starts, I see no reason to not keep him on the team for the upcoming season. Someone's starting QB may get injured and with that comes potential of trading Teddy to (possibly) QB needy team (may squeeze better compensation in that situation than now).

Do we stand to gain anything financially by cutting him ?

8M. But this team doesn’t seem to mind throwing money away when it comes to Teddy.

Agonizing over the cost of moving on is akin to crying over spilt milk. It's already happened. This possible outcome was set in stone when he signed on the dotted line. We took a gamble. It didn't work out. The only thing to do now is what is best for the team and the overall trajectory of the upcoming season. If that means removing a possible distraction at a cost then so be it.

He may be traded to a team that does not want to bid on him on the open market.  There are a lot of really good teams with stud QBs and below average backups.  They don't want to throw away their season if their franchise QB goes down for 6-8 weeks (think NO).  TB can hold things steady and keep a team afloat while waiting for their guy to return.

Think of a team like Tampa.  Brady is old - he could screw up his knew and miss 8 games in the middle of the season.  That team is too good to have to rely on Gabbert.  TB probably allows them to go 5-3 or 6-2 until Brady is back for the playoff push.

Cutting him saves us 3m.

But if Carolina can convert 7m of his salary to bonus - reducing his base salary to 10m.  I think some teams might be willing to bite on this price.  In this scenario, we save 6m instead of 3m, and receive some compensation (maybe a future 3rd or 4th).  Savings could increase in 2021 if we spread the dead hit into next year.

    • Miami Dolphins After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft, Davis signed with the Miami Dolphins on April 30, 2023.[12] He was waived on August 29, 2023 due to his in-game injury.[13] Injury On August 26, 2023, during the fourth quarter of the Week 3 preseason game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, Davis suffered an injury after sustaining a hit from Jaguars linebacker Dequan Jackson while the wideout was attempting to catch a pass from teammate James Blackman. Jackson appeared to make helmet-to-helmet contact with Davis, drawing an unnecessary roughness flag after the play and leaving Davis immobilized and later carted off the field. The game was later suspended with 8 minutes and 32 seconds remaining, with Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel saying, "The two teams agreed that football shouldn't be played anymore tonight." This was the second game to be suspended in the 2023 NFL season as the first involved Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden after a Week 2 preseason game against the Packers.[14] The next day on August 27, 2023, the Dolphins had released a statement saying that Davis was released from the hospital and would be traveling back to Miami with the team personnel.[15] However two days later on August 29, 2023, Davis was waived by the Dolphins with an injury settlement ahead of the team's cuts for the 53-player roster limit
    • By all means, go for it and talk down the league that guy came from its all good. Its just funny to hear you laugh at someone else's accomplishments having zero yourself.  Life is about criticisms of course......And it can also be fun to laugh at those those on the other side as well who never did a thing minimize others accomplishments. Good day sir!
    • Exactly,  there's only so many "elite" qbs in the league at any one time. It's usually 4 or 5 at most. Sometimes less.
