If Fields ends up being better than Darnold, Dave may never sit on his hands again.

He still should.

Jerry Jones used that kind of logic after Bill Parcells left. Since Parcells didn't win a Super Bowl, Jones reasoned that meant he was just as good as Parcells.

Do you think he was #1? Or was that Sewell. Cause I feel like we would have taken Sewell if he was there.

Fitterer said he was the top player on their board at the time. So no, I don't think he was their top player overall.

I don’t think we see fields start this year. At least not to begin with. It seems clear by the team choice they want to develop him about behind the vet. Maybe throw him in if the vets stink it up.

The Bears have already said that Andy Dalton is their starter.

I don’t expect Horn to play great this year either.  All of these guys you need to give a few years to accurately judge.

I think he will play soundly. I don’t think he’s gonna get the benefit of the doubt concerning hands play he did in college.

Fields made little sense once we got Darnold. For me it was between LT and CB. The best LT was gone but the best CB was there. It wasn't a tough decision once we couldn't get Sewell and no one wanted to give us a bunch to trade down. I'm glad the football folks won this debate. Even if Fields is great he wasn't a great pick for us at this point.

It would be dumb at this point to say you believe the Jets didn’t give Darnold a good enough team around him to be successful and then go out and upgrade the worst possible position for his success in the first round. Haha!

I mean, worse than the Packers trading up to select a QB the year after they were one game from the Super Bowl with Rodgers, or at least comparable. At least their QB was over 35.

There's a bit of an echo chamber effect developing here with these abrasive all caps riddled responses to anyone that isn't a complete shill for the staff. Here is a plain reality for you. Fields cannot develop into a good quarterback. If that happens and Sam Darnold is mediocre there will be questions and they will only grow louder. For me all I can do is hope it works out.

If seawell would have been there we would have taken him

then we would still have a huge need at DB....like we still have at OL

I think the Jets moved from one QB to another to appease the fans and put the blame on Darnold.  If Wilson does better it will be better coaching and better players not that Wilson is more talented than Darnold.. Anyine who watched the Jets at all knows that the offensive scheme was awful and Darnold got little help. He will be much better under Rhule and Brady because he nows has better coaching, a much better scheme and much better players. He doesn't have to be all world to have success here. Distribute the ball and let your players do their job.

At the very least, can the huddle (for now) put the Tepper = Snyder narrative to bed?

Can't speak for everybody, but I previously been talking about Tepper saying he was going to let his people do their jobs and wasn't going to try to be something he isn't.

My worry was that he might not live up to that statement.

He did.

One other thing I think you can take from this: Our smokescreen game isn't too shabby.

Several mocks from good sources had us taking Fields right up to the day of the draft.

well, I think it is fair speculation.....that a lot of people in the Carolina organization wanted Fields to be the pick.

Verge said a lot of people were very high on him in the building.  Which backs up what was said during the live broadcast while they were on the clock by Daniel Jeremiah about what folks inside Carolina had told him.

I think it came down to the Fritter's vote having the biggest say.  Which is how it generally works.  Lot of times the HC or OC or whoever....doesn't get who they want.    Who wanted what only comes out when poo hits the fan though.

    • Varying degrees all around but it starts at the top. That is where the buck stops. It has been 8 years of stupid, long before Morgan came back. Or Tillis was hired. Made it to the top of stupid mountain in 2023. Stayed in stupid limbo for a while, now we are prepping to scale the next mountain. In this case, I like those guys’ roster building better than what we have had so I am okay with them as our current pawns in the game of Bryce.
    • Don't let me gas him up too much, but I hear this and that...... I seen a wide body man with a quick burst, that's able to shed blocks and if extends his long arms its over. He tore up the OL in the senior, you seen about 10 plays and the dog walking OLman. There's other plays of him doing the same, just have to deal with fetus talking over the plays. Plus there's this-  https://x.com/PFF_College/status/2018385471068332410?lang=en     I hope he's ready, cause Id like to see him starting and doing his thang with dbrown, nic, and Phillips.
    • I mean there is relevance to that. But I think much of it has to do with the fact that he is clearly likeable. But does that translate to a coach taking his position to the next level like those that have had staying power for many years like Spoelstra? And not for nothing but does how much someone is liked even matter? Across leagues with the Panthers Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney were universally well liked by players. Dave Canales is very well liked. I say you are what your record says. And the record says you got your ass handed to you by a fellow expansion team in the Magic in a game that was over at halftime and that same team went toe to toe with our nemesis who has been handing us L's for over a year now. And if Bam doesn't get his leg swept by LaMelo do we even get past the Heat? Again. It just all boils down to personal standards. I think newer and younger fans will love this. I just want to actually win a real playoff game fam 🤷‍♂️
