That was great. The most I've ever heard him say and he seemed to be a fountain of knowledge and passion for the game.

If we only had more media who could elicit these types of responses with knowledgeable questions about the things players/coaches are genuinely interested in talking about.

Just some of my takeaways

  • He said Rivera was a very hands off coach and let the coordinators and assistants do their thing, only stepping in when needed.
  • Rivera sat down with him 1 on 1 and watched tape of Brian Ulracher to help him with some issues he was having as a rookie
  • Rivera would have low impact practices on purpose to help the team stay healthy
  • He praises McDermott a lot, does not mention Wilks or Washington once
  • McDermott helped him learn methods to scout and study film better. Under McD they would keep entire notebooks full of notes on specific coordinators systems
  • He apparently really did resign just so he could go hunting and fishing
  • You can tell he does not like analytics people, or is at least skeptical of them

The last statement gives additional insight as to why he resigned.

      Bryce Young is a problem — what would you do if you were Dan Morgan?

      I'd give Bryce until the trade deadline to prove he's the answer and if he's not I'm dumping him for whatever pick we can get and I'm riding with Dalton the rest of the way.  2 and a half years is enough time to determine if he can be the QB going forward so for Bryce he needs to come out over the next couple of weeks and show that. The other players in the locker room don't wanna waste another year of their careers waiting to see if you'll ever figure it out.  If you took a poll of the players in the locker room I'm sure they'd rather lose with a respected veteran Dalton who at least gives them some creditability versus losing with Bryce who the entire media will say was let down by his supporting cast when in reality it's Bryce's physical limitations that are holding this team back.

      I agree that he should’ve never been the pick at 1. In my 44 years I’ve never seen a team invest that much in a QB who is my size. I’m not meant for the NFL and neither is he.    Accepting we can’t change the past, I think it’s the correct call to keep playing him hoping that he will prove us wrong. I think we were dumb not to draft a QB this past year and let him learn and compete but that’s our reality.    I’m hoping this is the last year with the BY experiment and he deliverers us 1. To the playoffs or 2. The number one pick and we draft a real QB.

      In his first interview after the surgery he sounded absolutely miserable.  Man that must beat you down to have that done
