Sam Darnold's "Style of Ball"

When I saw that the Jets did Sam dirty, I decided to finally ditch them after so many years of hoping beyond hope they'd remove their heads out of their ass as an organization.

So, you bailed on the Jets for incompetence and doing their former franchise QB dirty and you landed on... the Panthers?

Whew boy... who wants to break the news to him?

I am less convinced than you seem to be that he is going to be bad here.

Part of that is his age and raw talent, part of that is our HC's history of pulling people up beyond what they may have thought possible. Part of it is that he has had next to no development in stop one (and the hope he has not been ruined by it).

Worth noting, he is 0-1 in the NFL pulling that out off with QBs.   And it did blow up on his face pretty well.   NFL and college are still different animals.

and yeah, he has his college resume.   Take Temple.  He turned them around.  Largely by developing the best defense in the conference and running the ball.   PJ was still only completing 50% of his passes.

I think odds are Rhule is going to just need to find an uber talented QB…not keep trying to think he can fix guys that couldn’t cut it.   Which is basically the norm for everyone.

The difference is that in almost every case these "second chance" QB's are given not just a second but third and fourth chances as they bounce around the league as backups. Yet, none of them ever ascend to being an elite starter even when they are in good scenarios.

This is the core of the disagreement. Nature versus nurture. I think nature is the prevailing factor because the bulk of the nurturing has already happened. You believe otherwise.

We'll see soon enough.

Well most people at all bust out of the NFL so that's not saying much.

We've seen every scenario so once again that's not saying much to point out that most QBs fail on any chance nevermind the 2nd or 3rd chance.

We've seen players play well on a team then play bad on another team
We've seen players like DeMarco Murray look like the best RB in the NFL to being right on out of the NFL...clearly the team/OL there

Each scenario is it's own context and can't be universally applied.

I don't believe what you just said at all. The reality is that its closer to equal and it certainly isn't one greatly over the other. Once again Mahommes or no one else is putting up good stats on that Jets team. DW had a top 3 WR for most of his time in Houston who clearly made sick plays himself but even the college DW was better than Darnold and is the superior player in every way and why he was our #1 target. We're on option C with a hope and a prayer with the context here being that no one looked good on the Jets including Bell who did well in Pittsburg but was one of the ghosts Sam was seeing as he was invisible too.

Bill Obrien thought he was Belichick and his personnel moves were hilarously idiotic but even that MFer had back to back winning seasons...twice even...so he damn sure can't be the worst actual coach in the NFL with the likes of Rivera still hanging around. Who incidentally also fuged up a certain QB.

But it actually is false that most of the nurturing has already happened with Sam as he only started one year in HS and two in college so he is very inexperienced overall and like the rest of the players got nothing from the coaching staff in NY. Unlike the TB scenario who played on several teams already and what he is was set in stone long before he got here we haven't seen Sam with anything worth a fart. Chances are, like most anyone who gets to the NFL, he won't pan out. Will cost us a 2nd rounder if he flubs, its not a big deal at all.

Apparently whoever Linville was referring to has been banned, so it must not have been you.

No.  I never bothered with Avatars and all that until I used the hilarious Sam Darnold drawing.

Yeah..that was definitely NOT me.

I came here as a new Panthers fan and more than likely will remain one even if Sam doesn't pan out (I think he will, though).

Come on now.....the Panthers can't be any worse than the Jets.

It's IMPOSSIBLE.  😂

The current edition? Remains to be seen but there's lots of reasons to be optimistic.

That's what I mean, actually.

I was not here for the Old Panthers regime.

I'm sure they gave the Jets a run for their money in incompetence but we'll see how this current one goes.

I mean, there were flashes here and there, but we were held back mostly by the fact that our original owner valued loyalty to him over the actual ability to do a job well. That's how we ended up with over a decade of Marty Hurney as our GM.

Yeah, see my post above about some of us being chronically cynical and the rest having Stockholm Syndrome.

Mahomes wouldn't put up great stats in NY.  Mahomes would still look like a fantastic QB if you put him on that team today though.

Bell also took a year off of football before going to the NY Jets and returned at age 27.  Some of that is likely to be on Bell though.

I mean, Cincinnati was a bad spot for Joe Burrow to land.  Joe Burrow is super talented and it still showed though.   Stats and wins might not look great.  But Joe Burrow showed his stuff.

Nope, Mahommes didn't even look fantastic on his team with his LT being out. The Jets gave up pressure on the majority of their passing attempts, no one is looking fantastic in that scenario much less Mahommes on a much worse team(severe understatement) than his SB team.

Yea that's one example of many, like I said every scenario has happened and happens nearly every year.

The Bengals suck but have weapons for a QB....Bernard has been one of the best RBs and Higgins and Boyd are good young WRs sucks for AJ Green with his injuries though but when he's on the field the other team is putting their CB1 on him still. Big difference between being hapless and sucking but yea Burrow is good but what happened to him is what can happen to good QBs on poo teams when their OL keeps fugin up...I mean his OL drove his man into Burrow that derpy poo always seems to follow the dumbass teams which is bad for the young QBs for sure.

I mean our own Cam Newton was hurt diving to stop a TD when KB should have first ran the route properly and caught the ball, second tackle the fugin guy....but yea shitty teams derp and fail their QB....just adds to the point really.

    • I can't sell mine for the $250 transfer fee and they have been listed more than a year. It's my last year anyways, I wouldn't sign an extension anyways. I'm walking if I can't sell them. I won't be going to a game anyways this year. They don't resale for much and that wasn't something that made me happy unless it was a game or 2 a year. It's time for me to walk. The team can take it and resale it or whatever. I'm way past recouping anything and just ready to spend that money someplace my family would enjoy.
