Tampa was 1 for 5 in game one, zero for two in game two and 2/3 tonight......

Thats a 70% kill rate.... we are doing 15% better than FL

Yea but even with those numbers the eye test says they’re hanging on by a thread during those power plays. Felt like Tampa has been well in control on power plays while the hurricanes are struggling to even maintain the zone

We were at 85% during the regular season, and 88% agaist Nashville, Tonight is the first time they have done well on the PP....

Also Tampa bays first PP unit is ridiculously stacked.

"To be the man, you gotta beat the man."

Our PK is very good when it's clicking, I am guessing our injuries have a little something to do with it.

This post doesnt pass the smell test there are no almosts..... Every team in the NHL would be lucky just to "hang on" agaist Tampas PP1 unit.

Gotta imagine Mrazek gets the nod in game 4. He played a really good game and had no chance on both of Tampa's PP goals - our PK tends to play super aggressive, which means if they beat the initial pressure, somebody is going to be wide open in front of the net. With all the puck handlers Tampa has, we really need to change that strategy.

It didn’t help either that on the two scoring PKs the guys the Canes had in the box were big penalty killers, Aho and Skjei.  Aho, in particular, is an ‘annoying’ penalty killer.  He’s got an active stick, fast, harasses the PP puck carriers in all 3 zones, and is a constant threat to grab a lose puck and get a shorty.  Having him in the box makes Tampa’s PP that much better.

Honestly both of those goals were flukes in a way. Ya they both were cycle goals, something we rarely allowed all season but mostly just cause one of our guys over skated. We did a lot better on third not getting out of position or getting stuffed on the wall and getting the puck to our stretch defense mode. That said…

Ned has been stellar on the PK and Mrazek hasn’t had the time in net in game to get comfortable. You really only started to see him do his head shake thing after a save in the third. It’s a trade off. I’m not sure Ned saves 35/37 but who knows.

This team desperately needs a few extra days of rest. Why does the NHL schedule things like this? You would think they would want their teams to be better rested.

Cause they are rushing to get things done so they can have a regular season in October.

I don’t know why they didn’t stack the days of rest before the series though. Instead after game four for us and game one for Vegas/Avs.

Luckily, we get 2 days off after game four so we can go straight home Saturday night after the game and get our boys two days rest at home where as Tampa will only have one full day off.

    • when we drafted Bryce Young that team might have been more talented than the team we currently have ?  that was the whole reasoning behind morgagting  our immediate future to trade up to #1 overall for BY. our front offices & owners felt like hey guess what the time is now to srike while the iron is hot go hire an All Star coaching staff we were only a Qb away from taking that next step ..just saying
    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
